Just wondering, does anyone have any local experience with these?

I know the cars are sold as-is, but anything more to that?

Could I really come away with a steal or will I be competing with dealers trying to get their resell on?

Thanks!

I think the beauty behind it all is that even if you were in a bidding war with a dealer, the auction price would still be considerably less than a dealer's price.  They not going up there to get cars at prices they'll break even at on their lot.  Your steal/deal threshold is much wider than theirs.

I know like 2 people that got cars from an auction (not police) and they ran well.  I dont remember them talking about any major work being needed

I got a car from the DC police auction. i paid $500 and the car only lasted bout a week.
but that was my fault cuz i didnt peep the obvious rust under the hood which indicates that the car was in a flood although the carfax didnt say $+%*.
Most the cars are confiscated during police stops/drug bust, or stolen cars that were never claimed, or just abandoned on the road.
and i dont kno about the other police auctions but at the DC one they wont let u drive away with it after purcahse, you have to get it towed.
