Aight, ya'll help ya boy out.  I recently listed my iPhone for sale on eBay and was almost scammed by some dude.  Basically asked me through email to end the auction early and he'd shoot me $600 to ship the phone to his wife in The Philippines.  I'm thinking "$600?!...BET!" so I end the auction and wait for a PayPal message saying he sent the bread.  Sure enough I get a fraudulent $#% email from "PayPal" saying he'd paid the money but it wouldn't be released to me until I provide shipping info through that email.  Gave me a transaction ID and everything but when I went to check it out nothing showed up.  Called PP and they pretty much confirmed it was a fraud attempt.  Luckily I was thorough enough to check on it before proceeding but it still cost me $13.70 in listing fees.

FAST FORWARD...

Relisted...some dude BIN for $399...SENT the bread legitimately BUT there's a 21 day hold on the funds unless shipping info is provided, or he leaves positive feedback.  His address is unconfirmed and he wants me to ship the phone to a New York hotel???  What's good...should I proceed or just issue a refund and go on about my business.  I specifically put in my auction that "I will ship as soon as funds are received and CLEARED through my bank."  I don't do eBay much because of %%$% like this and just stick to NT for selling my kicks but I figured I'd get the most bread for an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone on eBay.

Sorry for the long post but what should I do?

if buyer has good feedback ship the phone....ebay has done that with me in the past, I got the $$ after it was confirmed buyer received the item.

Don't ship unless he has a confirmed address and then ship only to that address.
Or tell him to gift you the money

its for buyer protection...just make sure you get tracking, and sig confirmation and if you dont print label through paypal update the purchase with the #. After its been delivered and if it's not cleared to your paypal call paypal and let them know that it has.

You have low feedback correct?

^ Yeah I have low feedback.  The hold really doesn't worry me to be honest.  It's the unconfirmed address and a hotel at that.

Paypal is holding the $ because you're either a new user or your account is not verified. The buyer being unconfirmed and wanting to ship to a hotel is a whole other issue. Personally, if Paypal was holding funds to the tune of $400, I wouldn't ship top an unconfirmed buyer unless they have great recent feedback, and even then, only to the address provided by paypal, period. If its that big of an issue you can always refund the payment and ask the buyer to confirm their shipping address and resend.

That's what I'm saying...the address thing gets me.  I'm not a new user I've had both eBay and PayPal accounts since '02.  I understand the hold is probably because my recent feedback is 0% because I rarely ever use eBay.  That's cool with me but the fact that the unconfirmed address is a HOTEL...that raises a red flag with me.  Plus I emailed the guy a while ago and have gotten no response.  I'mma do what you said though and just issue a refund and try to do a resend to a confirmed address.  Otherwise, anybody need an unlocked iPhone?

...j/k s_dubl don't ban me.

EDIT: Here's his reply to my email...

We are not from the US, only visiting for a few weeks. We are
going to be staying at the hotel we listed for a few days. All we
need is a confirmation from the hotel saying the package had
been received. Please reconsider the sale and kindly ship to the
requested delivery address.

I refunded his money and just sent him a nice email saying I wasn't comfortable making the transaction.  I had to go with my gut.  Besides I'm sure somebody on Craigslist in NYC will have an iPhone listed while they're there.
