Post office screwed me

So I had to ship 3 boxes cross country. Nothing too expensive so I stupidly did not get insurance.

One small box had some dvds and other small items. I receive it today and almost all of the dvd's are gone except for a couple and instead there a bunch of kids shoes.

A bigger box had some books and some plaques of awards. Some of the books are missing and the plaques have been damaged/tampered with. Also a random shirt that definitely isn't mine is in the box.

The third box hasn't arrived yet.

Since I didn't purchase insurance am I essentially SOL here?

Naw. I just moved cross country. I packed and shipped the boxes myself.

I talked to one of my boys and something similar happened to him recently and they talked to USPS and they're apparently doing an investigation now

i hate investigations, they follow up with you the first week, after that you have to keep contacting them. And in the end, they lost my package and i was not compensated.
