i remember when i was younger i wanted a dave mirra haro, too expensive though. His signature model was like $600.

so I'm thinking maybe a few years from now I'll try an experiment where I pick up a cracked high end DH frame and have him weld it back together .

FYI that wouldn't work - aluminum which most of those bikes are made from needs to be carefully heat treated once it has been welded - if you weld it itwill never have any strength at that joing - and, in fact, the heat of the welding will ruin the strength elsewhere too.

I've heard someone do it - similar story where a family member was a welder and said that they weld aluminum all the time so they did it. Disastrousconsequences.

He's on point with that. My friend who's real heavy into bmx loves that site.

I found this road bike in the garbage, fixed it into what it is now and converted it into a single speed. Still a lot of work to be done, finally getting backto it after it was in storage for the winter

2000 GT Avalanche. On the fence about upgrading parts on it or selling it and going FS. Any thoughts on the Trek Fuel EX?

it was pretty expensive...

the stock bike was $350 but i only kept the frame, fork, and seatpost...

the deep v rims were 100 total
the spokes were 50 total
the hubs were 180 total
the tires were 100 total
so the wheelset alone costed me $430 alone

the seat i got hooked up for and found it brand new for $30

stem, bars, grips, brake and lever costed $100 altogether

the drivetrain is top of the line
cranks were $150
chainring $75
fixed cog $20
gold chain $15
pedals / cages / straps... $40
total drivetrain: $300

plus it costed me another $120 to powdercoat it...

so all in all... around $1350 (which doesn't include labor because it helps to know people)... which now that i look at it was TOTALLY overdoing it butaside from the frame, it's pretty much the best components you can buy...

didn't know this post existed...appreciated
