Post Your Greatest Pitcher Ever

Well a lot of you know that I almost bleed baseball... But me and a co-worker were debating on the best pitcher ever. He said Nolan, but I had another guy inmind...

My dude had the greatest season ever for a pitcher in '68, ask Zo he was there

Here's the stats...
22-9, 28 complete games, 13 shut outs, 304.7 innings pitched, 1.12 ERA, 268 K's, 0.853 WHIP, and he took home the Cy Young with the MVP that year

Yeah, first name that came to mind was Nolan Ryan. It's pretty hard to argue against him statistically.

Nolan Ryan only had 2 20 win seasons though

I was surprised when I saw that... I thought he would've had like 5 or 6 20 win seasons...

25-5, 20 complete games, 11 shutouts, 311 innings pitched, 1.88 ERA, 306 K's, .875 WHIP

It wasn't his best season, IMO, his last season (1966) he pitched with arthritis (diagnosed before the 1965 season and cut his career at age 30). He camein 2nd in MVP voting, and wont the Cy Young.

27-9, 27 Complete games, 5 Shutouts, 323 innings, 317 K's, 1.73 ERA.

Nolan Ryan wasnt that great in my opinion. Pitched forever? Yea. Amazing fastball? sure. Pitcher or Thrower?

Clemens was better

And Dwight Gooden as a rook had just about the filthiest stuff out there.

On skills alone not stats Pedro Martinez is the best pitcher I have ever seen. Pedro has been every kind of pitcher you can be and be good at it. He wasunhittable throwing 97 mph and just about unhittable throwing 87 mph that is pitching. He can throw 6 pitches for strikes and I felt this way about him beforehe became a Met. But he dont have the stats Roger has HGH and all that.

Now on to all time? I gotta go with Clemens

with Sandy standing out forme from the old timers. I never seen those guys and I cant give to much weight to those gaudy stats it was a totally different era.

excuse my ignorance, but isn't a complete game when you pitch all the innings and win? So how does he have 28 complete games and only 22 wins? Thanks

Naw, you can still pitch 9 inning(a complete game) and have your team not score enough runs, resulting in a loss.
