potty training kids

My wife and I have been trying to potty train my son for about a month.  He's got no problem with peeing.  He has'nt had an accident with that since day 2.  But he refuses to poop in the toilet.  He just wont do it.  We've had him sit there for what seem like forever with no luck.  Then, as soon as he goes to bed, he poop his pants.  He'll do things like hold it for 2 days, then  go crap in the bed.  Any advice.

Ive yet to try to potty train mine. I think this is the wrong place to ask for this kind of advice. The majority of the guys here dont have kids, much less get laid. lol

Does he have a potty or do you sit him in the toilet?

My friends kid was doing the same thing where she just refused to use the bathroom, I believe he had to take her to a specialist.

Also I think they sell books about that.

When we were potty training my daughter she was the same way. However, my daughter doesn't like to have piss and poop on her so we put regular underwear on her (after we showed her how to use her stool to get on the pot) and whenever she had to poop, she ran straight to the pot and made her mud.

What made him finally start going regularly was telling him that his poop was really BIG, which it was, and that it looked like a big snake/worm. When its broken up that its big rocks. He gets excited and wants to see it. But basically he's gotta eat prunes, or anything that MAKES him poop so that he cant hold it in.

our 1st boy is almost 3... we started when he was about 2.5.
they just have to be ready mentally.  if your boy isn't 'ready'... forcing the issue won't help.

and like everyone else that's posted, our boy was also traumatized at first and held his poop for a few days too.  Just congratulate him even when he gets 'close' to the toilet.  That should break down the trauma. IMO

We just started on our girls...they are super young at 15 months, but it could pay off in the long run. They got a Sesame St/Elmo DVD for potty time. No real results to report at this time. All that we have been trying to do is put them on as soon as they wake up and after meals.
