nah it's lump sum + taxes....the "232 million" is a spread payment over 40 years or something, otherwise you can take an upfront which is like 2/3 of it. so dude settled for like 160-170 and got taxed down to 88.

I didnt know how the lottery worked before but the reason why you end up with around half when you take the cash options is because thats really how much isavailable in the jackpot. The lottery commission relies on interest every year to build your jackpot over a number of years. So if you have 100 million prizethere is only really something like 40-60 million depending on interest rates and if you go for the cash option thats what youll get minus taxes.

I never thought about that until I found out a couple years ago.
