Obama is about to rip into BP. I think everyone agrees that the oil spill is both frustrainting and disheartening. What are your views though on the government's response? Keep in mind that a spill like this has NEVER been seen. I'm particularly interested in the views of any of you guys down there near the gulf.

the government responded? %$+* is sad that its got to this point %$+* will be in books for our kids to read about and folks dont even know or care about it

What scares me is how they are saying the technology is too complicated even for the people who build it to fully understand.  N.O. can't catch a break.

About time they stepped in. I heard something about them about to declare bankrupt so they won't have to pay anything

I don't know about that, they've had regular quarterly earnings in the billions.  I couldn't imagine one of the top 10 F500 companies just folding like that.  I did hear they (BP) are trying to fight the cap on lawsuit liability amounts.

i mean this right here is disgusting ... a built in defense and excuse for the government's shortcomings ... sick and tired of this %%%!*$*% ... CALL THE GOVERNMENT OUT, regardless of who is president and how bad you want them to succeed ...

Obama dropped the ball on this, point blabk period ... it's been 45 days and we havent done @$!% except watch ecosystems fail and coastlines get polluted ... o but it's ok because Obama said BP has to pay for this ...
roll.gif
gimme a break ...

we never saw anything like Katrina, but were you using the same defense then? wanting change, yet perpetuating the same type of two-facedness exhibited by most of the politicians in our government ... WAKE UP ...

This is a major test in our presidents legacy. I hope they are repranded. The dolphins dying the families put through hardship due to the economic effects of this spill. I believe BP should be prosecuted or at least held accountable for their actions.

Y'all peep spike down there shootin?

BP put up
$$$ for obamas presidential campaign. They're like the friend u have that actually kicks on money for the brews for the party but them @#+$@ in your bathtub on some drunk %%$!...
smh.gif
shame on you BP

they don't care, bp wasted all that money on the lost oil, they don't want to waste anymore on cleaning it up. im pissed at the i don't give a f attitude about the environment. i mean they actually said global warming isn't real, its a political ploy. really? i wish i could create a company powerful enough to influence a change because not even obama can do it alone

The only difference is technological deficiencies were on the government's behalf during Katrina.  A lot of the damage was claimed preventable had the levies been maintained.  This isn't a natural disaster, the private company responsible deserves some of the blame.

Obama was just giving these teaparty people a taste of what they desire, no government interference.

No they shouldn't. Someone needs to keep an eye on them or else they become too powerful and try to influence policies so that they can make more profit at the expense of people or the environment.

People complain about the government being too big and how it shouldn't interfere with anything and now people are crying asking Obama to come to the rescue. You can't have it both ways.

Read an editorial from my local newspaper, some woman was saying how the government shouldn't get involved in the oil spill... And that this oil spill shows the success of capitalism.. Had to do a quadruple take..

A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.

Thomas Jefferson didn't live in an era where banks took ridiculous risks knowing that they would be bailed out by the government.

He also didn't live in a world where lobbying was a million dollar business.

Obviously just swim down there and stick his #%*% up the pipe.

I was wondering why there wasn't some sort of safety valve on these things so you could just turn it off. Turns out Cheney changed the law a few years ago to stop these companies having to spend $500k on a valve on each pipe - because it wasn't necessary.

Look, you can tell me who changed what law when but this doesn't take away from the fact that this entire thing is Obama's fault. I'm pretty sure he even rowed out and caused the explosion to begin with. So lets stop trying to blame Republicans so we can elect Sarah Palin in 2012 and save America from the Socialists.
