Two things:

1. Yes, they are real but you cannot walk, run, use them because they will fall apart.  Guaranteed.

2. This shoe will  be retroed on black friday this year.

He's worn them before, said he hasn't had any problems but that is what worries me

IMHO these are unwearable but indeed legit.

IF you wear them, you better take baby steps and do it only for about an hour or two each time. These midsoles will start crumbling faster if you put them through stress. I unDS'd a pair of metallic 5s from 1999 and they're now starting to crack a bit inside. I'd say these should still go around for $450-$500, but that's really on the low end of things. I bought a DS pair for $530 as reference.
