same thing happened to me a few weeks ago wit Uncharted 2. game froze....then disc read error. tried cleaning lens but nothing.
luckily i was able to pick up a 60gig on craigslist for $60, system wouldn't take disc when inserted. i popped it open and to my surprise
the gears were just off track, fixed within 5 minutes and system is working like new.
so yea id say if u can find a cheap one on craigslist that won't take/eject disc then go for it, most likely its just something off track. these are theeasiest to fix IMO.

What I suggest you PS3 heads or people interested in buying a PS3, is to buy from Costco, they take back your system if it messes up.... At least thats what mybrother said, his GF works there and knows whats up

Friend of mine is having trouble with his slim, and Sony is saying they don't cover them. He has to pay for the repair and his console is about 2-3 monthsold.

This is what I was told. It's not my PS3, so I don't know for sure. But I was told that whoever he spoke to said that slims aren't covered.

sorry to hear this homie. Actually the same thing happened to me, my ps3 wouldnt read any discs at all. Luckily i had best buy warranty and walked in got a newsystem and had 100 dollars left on a gift card becuase the price had dropped

the same thing happened to me when i was playing RSV back in 07. Luckily they sent me brand new ps3... u could try doing the maintenance settings. Theres asecret option in the ps3 where it takes you to a maintenance setting allowing you to fix stuff, might solve this..

I just got the full story, dude said they asked him to ship in his console with the recipt, otherwise he'd have to pay $149 + tax + s/h for the repair. Ithought they used the serial number to figure out when the console was sold. Guess not.

Your BD probably croaked, mine did the same. Paid the 149 to have it serviced, they had to replace the BD and now it works fine.
