Public school vs private school?

So my daughter is 2, eventually shell be attending school. My dad offers to pay for her private school tuition and it got me thinking is the private school route worth it? I need help bros, Ive been in public school all my life so i have no experience with private school life.

Depends. Are there good quality public schools where you live. I've been to both. ElementRy was a magnet public school, middle/junior high was a private Quaker school, high school was probably one of the top 2 public schools in my city.

The private school was great but it wasn't a realistic environment in the sense that those people as a whole didn't represent how the world actually is and I think I would've had a much harder time in college had I stayed there because I wasn't exposed to anything really. Luckily I got into a fantastic high school that was great on the education side but also the diversity side and just more real

Pretty much all there is to it.

You should also consider the type of learning environment that would suit your kid (class size, etc.)

If you went to schools in PG yourself you should know how they are. While the systems may not be the best in the state, you have pockets of decent schools here and there just like anywhere else (it really depends on where you are zoned).

As far as early elementary, I think most are fine, but if your child has some type of special need, definitely go the private school route. Its really when you start getting into middle & high school where I think a decision can really be assessed (Not speaking from experience. Just observations).

I went to public school K-12 in an underperforming school district, and it definitely affected me in college. I was not as prepared as people who went to better schools

Gotta do ya research on any and all schools

Worked at a private school and all kids had As or As and Bs but not all had the qualifying knowledge. Had a 3rd grader pass a math test but couldn't understand the homework about the same information

Some real estate sites have school district ratings for homes or areas

i went to one of the best private schools here in hawaii and flunked out of college when i found out that you had a choice whether or not you wanted to attend classes
my 3 cousins that went to public school all got perfect SATs and got scholarships to attend good colleges

that being said, i'm going to do my best to get my son into a good private school. he's 3 years old and in a good preschool now and will probably get private tutoring at some point.

The private schools in MD are solid, PG county schools are not that great.

If you were in MoCo, especially Rockville area, I would say tell your dad to save the money for her college education.

I went to private school K-5, then public school 6-12.

I'll say this. I was definitely ahead of people when moving to public school. But now at the university level I'm pretty much average.

I'm not a great student though.

Went to both public (k-2 and high school) and private school( 3- . Public school had more more advanced classes. Private had more structure, and more of a disciplinary environment. I excelled in both school settings, and was on the honor roll more times than not. at both. There are pros and cons to both. Its pretty much depends on the area where you live or want them to go to school.Poor area will lead to poorly funded schools/ lack of resources and information and poorly paid teacher who will have less of an inclination to give a damn. Private school also depends on the funding of its attendees, patriarchs and alumni. ( I remember comparing my math to public school and we were always behind and our school books weren't the latest). Each school is different and one is not necessarily better than the other. I chose the path less taken because I know exactly what I want for my kids. Homeschool ftw.

My father went to private school and the alumni there are top of the food chain, one of the guys is related to the whole "Wolf of Wall Street" fiasco an I got other stories, guys have been on American Greed he went to school with. The networking alone is wayyyyyy better also. I know this from personal experience from people in my town also. If I ever have kids it'll be private. My dad got in on scholarship but my sis an I went to regular school but public education in state of Connecticut is much better than most states.

If you live in a rich area schools make a HUGE difference, lot of that in Connecticut

If you go to Weaver HS in Hartford vs Greenwich HS in Greenwich it'll be waaaaaay different. So yes money is a major [emoji]128273[/emoji] in life, it's not guarantee but it gives you better options in the world.

Private school without a doubt. I noticed the difference right away when I transferred to a private university.

Depends where you live but understand that certain private schools will have a leg up when it comes to college admissions process. My school was a prime example where ivys and other top schools looked at the top 1% of a class but when they looked at students from my school they would look at the top 5 and even top 10% and even slightly more than that. But then again my school didn't have an official rank list. We had a percentile you fell into when your GPA was within a certain percentage.

had a friend get kicked out for poor grades his junior year and finished off HS with straight As in an LA public school, said it was the easiest thing ever.

I attended private school for my pre k education, and high school.

I would say that going to a good private school during my developmental years was instrumental in my learning at a higher rate compared to my peers. Just my opinion. Public school offered me a more grounded experience, and I beleive a lot more interpersonal skills.
