Question about rims on a car

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS sedan. I have 15'' stock steel rims on it. They've rusted over the past couple months and wanted to buy some new rims. I found a decent deal with some 17'' wheels. But my question is how do i know whats the biggest size rims my car can take, without ruining anything or w.e? Can i go 17'' with no problem?
