Question about setting up my Paypal.

Im setting up a new paypal account and have a few questions, because i had a few problems the last time i had one.

1. Is there anyway where i can set it up to where i put the money into the paypal account, rather than it being linked to Checking account?

Cause last time i bought something using paypal, it took the amount of what i bought out of my checking account twice.

So i want it to where i just transfer the amount over without it being directly linked.
