Basically as the title states whats the real purpose of it

someone told me its just another way to lose weight

and i heard its basically the "tighten" up as your losing weight so your not flabby?

It's a good place to sit and sweat.

Some use it as part of their routine, to warm up or to get out toxins or a place to just relax.
 
My boy went in at 230lbs and 26% bodyfat. Came out 195 at 8% bodyfat. It's a wonderful thing.

isnt it mostly water weight you are losing that you will gain back as soon as you rehydrate?

doesnt do much, i hate when fat people sit in there all day thinking YAY im sweating so im gonna lose weight.
