The best computer depends on your needs. Do you need something for school to do casual surfing and write papers? Or are you a graphical designer, who needs a computer to manipulate large amounts of audio and video?

There really needs to be an official computer thread... I might make one today.

so here is my take on it...and i agree there needs to be an official computer thread..

macbooks are not overrated but they are a bit overpriced. essentially like mercedes. you aren't buying something you can't necessarily get in a honda accord fully loaded, you are also paying for the name.

flipside, the build quality with a macbook has always been better imo. single cut piece of aluminum, with the best pcb design on the market (simply put, the motherboard has been designed so small and so effciently, apple was always able to sell long lasting laptops)

case in point, the macbook air is 12 hours of battery :x


windows manufacturers have long been on some bs with their poor design. laptops have long been heavy and more fragile. HP laptops for the longest time shipped these massive tumor type batteries just so computer can still last less than 8 hrs

meanwhile apple was selling the thinnest laptop with the best longevity.

i personally think macbooks should be priced a bit cheaper, but nowadays the air is helping with that.



SSDs are crazy. i am going to upgrade my 2010 core 2 duo mbp to a SSD. the speed difference is ridiculous. they really are a great investment, if u can afford them.




now software. windows 8 is HOT TRASH. period. it looks modern and new and all that, but goddamn is the usability is out the window with that tablet style ********. why they thought it would be cool to keep it tablet style for mouse and keyboard users is beyond me. luckily they are bringing back the full start menu this summer i believe

otherwise windows 7 is the way to go and it will be supported for at least 10 yrs..




Mac OS X isn't a revolutionary operating system imo. its very straight forward, and it goes about certain tasks differently. viruses aren't really an issue. and its always been more user friendly, hence apple's reputation.


unfortunately, OS X is long overdue for a visual overhaul. this os looks like some ********. really dated. they've only updated the features, the gestures, and reengineer the code to run and startup faster, but it still looks mad old.


this is supposed to change this June when apple presents the new OS X update 10.10. this will have the OS redesigned and not far from iOS.






best thing about my macbook. the trackpad. because once you master those gestures you'll be browsing the internets like

so i just renamed a lot of mp3 files the same name on accident (71 to be exact) is there a way to change the names back?
