Question for serious runners: do you judge other runners when their shoes are too clean/new?

I don't know how long this has been going on or maybe I just started noticing people in head to toe new Nike running gear everytime I see them at the gym. I run in everything from Asic gel kayano to Nike air max 2012 but my kicks are dirty as hell after the first couple runs. Are these people not running outside, buying new gear all the time? Looks like my athletic club is a fashion show with everyone wearing brand new kicks and gear. Seems a little poserish to me, but maybe I need new kicks strictly for indoor stuff, idk. Real talk, I feel dirty compared to these brand new people.

What? You're over thinking about people's gear too much. I don't know about the majority of people, but I like running or lifting weights in clean clothes. Maybe those people have indoor and outdoor shoes. I do most of my running outside and my shoes look worn but they don't get too dirty.

I'm not overthinking, I just can't help but notice everyone wearing seemingly brand new running shoes everytime I workout. It's hard to miss all the 2012 Nikes because they all have bold colors. Everyone is looking a little too new..

Serious runners aren't often at the gym so the people you see there are probably just your average work out person. Regardless I wouldn't judge, if someone doesn't get the proper shoe to run in, that's a 'them' problem. If they always buy new kicks, it's their prerogative. When I run a road race I definitely don't just see new Nike shoes

Ever think that those people w/ the cleaner looking shoes pretty much stick to the treadmill?

Running elitists such as the OP, FTL.

Treadmill everyday is wack tho. They deserve to be judged if that's the case.

Ignore them then since it seems to bother you. It's stupid to say it's poserish of people to wear new shoes. Like the other poster said, serious runners probably aren't in the gym too often. Even if they are, maybe they'd rather wear something else than their usual running shoe. NT needs to bring the membership approval back. New members have brought in a lot of bad threads.

Short answer no. When I was seriously running I would buy a new pair of shoes to run in every 1.5 to 2 months, but they would be pretty damn beat up by the time I was done with them. People at the gym on treadmill's for the most part aren't serious runners anyways, so that is a terrible spot to choose judgement.

This thread is awful. I'm an extremely athletic guy so im always doing something, and I'm also a fashion head. So I stay in a bunch of new shoes and clothes or whatever. I have separate stuff for indoor to outdoor. Judging people on their clothes is corny. Period. You're nobody special because u decide to just stay in the same beat up kicks all the time nor are they for the new new. It's all about the work put in that separates us.

Business, get some.

my kicks are never beat up, but they're not spotless like a lot of people at the gym. My gym is pretty expensive, so maybe it's more likely to be populated by posers there to just look cute. I think that's fine for girls, but guys it's a bit metro-ish, IMO. Guys shouldn't really care if their kicks are a little dirty from a few runs.... Like dudes putting together cute outfits or the perfect tank/short/kicks combo is OD

who said it bothered me? Simply asking a question for my serious runners who don't care if their kicks get dirty on that 10k they messed around with and won on Wednesday 8)

Why does it bother you tho fam? Why can't we have individuality? You look good, you feel good. I could care less what someone wears in the weightroom long as they're there to work and not just get in the way chatting and looking for attention. If you're gettin it in and have fresh gear on, it just makes ya look that much better.

I know some people who have gym memberships that don't even go to the gym. I don't care what race, if you're fat, if you're wearing the latest free run 3's, or wearing the air max 2009. As long as you paid for your gym membership, actually go to put in effort and time to make a change in your life, and really want to achieve whatever goals you may have, I will not judge you.

Sounds you're clinging too tightly to that old school 'Clean uniforms are worn by lazy athletes' line of thinking.

Chiiiilll.

#1- Doing nothing but treadmill every day is still exercise.

#2- Some folks clean their shoes. I know I do. I've had kicks top-to-bottom covered in mud, and I clean them as soon as I get back to the house.
