This is my first blu ray player so excuse my ignorance. But, my player came with the normal red yellow and white component cables and I'm thinking thepicture quality isn't all that great. So is it the HDMI cord that I need for that exceptional picture or do i need the additional red, green and bluecomponent cables like the ones for the xbox 360? It's one or the other, right?

Sorry if it sounds confusing

Good lookin out man. So the HDMI cord alone replaces the component cords completely right, I don't even need those plugged in anymore?

First and foremost what kind of TV do you have? Blu-Ray or not if you have a crappy TV the picture won't be any better. If you have a 720por 1080p set then HDMI is what you need.

Don't feel bad for asking when i got my ps3 I had the same question, got a $10 HDMI cable from amazon and

Blu-Ray movies in a 1080p, 120hz or above tv is just plain gorgeous!

HDMI will transmit your audio/video signals.
And I think at some point they're going to integrate an internet connection within the cable as well.

Yeah I have a 1080p HDTV, I could tell the difference when I switched to my 360 the picture quality was much better for my games versus the bluray I was playing and I knew the 360 was running in 1080p.
