Quick College Question

Im a freshman in college and for my first semester ended up with a 2.75. If i finish the second semester with a 1.75 would i be placed on academic probation since I got below a 2.0 or not since my gpa is still above a 2.0 overall?

No. Once you're overall gpa in under 2.0 you'll get on prob.

That's how my college does it.

I'd ask someone who works at my uni if i were you.

i go to a cuny(hunter college), so its a hassle trying to get anything done around here. dont even get me started on trying to sign up for classes(or find out graduation requirements).

At my college yes, if the overall gpa wasn't under 2.0.

i go to a cuny(hunter college), so its a hassle trying to get anything done around here. dont even get me started on trying to sign up for classes(or find out graduation requirements).

It's probably in your best interest to try to find out the policies of your university and not rely on those of other universities.

well i hope its the same situation in mine lol. Im not really that bad of a student, just had a bunch of stupid crap happen to me at the same time along with an ankle injury causing me to flunk a little

i checked the websites policies and this is what it says on this topic

If your Hunter GPA falls below the established retention level (see below), you are automatically placed on academic probation. If you do not achieve the minimum GPA during the probationary period, you will be automatically dismissed from the college.

Credits Minimum GPA

0-12 1.50 D
13-24 1 .75 D
25+ 2.00 C

If you are dismissed from the college, you may attend the first summer term at Hunter to improve your GPA, but only those grades earned at Hunter will be calculated into the Hunter GPA.

Academic dismissal may be appealed. If your dismissal appeal is approved, you may remain at Hunter. If it is denied, you may not be readmitted until you have been separated from The City University of New York for at least one semester or the equivalent calendar time. You may obtain an Application for Readmission at the OASIS, 217 North Building.

its vague in the sense of gpa's on a by semester average. For example, doesnt say whether if u got a 3.0 one semester and a 1.75 the next whether or not youll be placed on probation. I will take your adive nters and go talk to a counselor or something. I guess the 10 to 20 minutes(or maybe a little more) it takes out of my time to be sure what will happen regarding this situation is better than wondering what will happen.

It sounds like your "Hunter GPA" is your overall GPA. I would still call or talk to a counselor to be absolutely sure since it's not entirely clear.

ur right boris, i'll try to do that soon. It does hint at it being the overall GPA but doesnt clearly state it, which makes me wonder a little.
