Quick Mac OS X Upgrading Question

I bought a Macbook on Craigslist yesterday and it had OS X 10.7.1 installed. I wanted to do a fresh install of the OS so I just used the disk that came with the computer. Unfortunately I didn't realize that it was version 10.5.5. Is there any way to get 10.7.1 back without having to buy it again? I tried using Software Update but it only updated to 10.5.8. Thanks in advance.

10.7 (Lion) is tied to the AppleID that was used to purchase it. You're SOL OP.

Smh what the hell is the point of that? It should be tied to the serial number or something related to the actual computer. Thanks for the info bros.

On new computers Lion is tied to the serial number of the computer. But in your case since it did not come with Lion, the original owner purchased Lion from the Mac App Store, so it's tied to their AppleID.

It would be the equivalent if you bought the computer from them with 10.6 installed, but they didnt give you the 10.6 install disc, only what came with the computer (10.5).

Nope, you can make your own external boot disc for Lion through the Lion Recovery.


And you're running Lion on a Macbook? Does it even run smooth?

Yes, it's a copy of lion from my friend.  Yes, on my MacBook Pro.  Yes, it's perfect.

I answered "No", referring to your #mindblown? reference to using a external device to load Lion. Not really that exciting IMO.
And I was asking OP if Lion ran smooth.
