Singer/Songwriter Garners Critical Acclaim
And Sets to Kick-Off A 23-Date National Tour With Jill Scott
On February 5th In Seattle, Washington

New York, NY - Jive recording artist, Raheem DeVaughn, who recently
received a Grammy Award nomination for his current single "Woman,"
debuts at #1 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and #5 on the
Top 200 Albums Chart with his latest effort, Love Behind The Melody.
The Baltimore based singer/songwriter will kick-off a major city tour
with Jill Scott in Seattle, WA at the Paramount Theatre on February
5th.

Early reviews are in on Raheem's latest album, Love Behind The Melody,
and all the critics agree. Entertainment Weekly gives it an A- and
enthuses that "…he wraps his tenor around unusually sincere
ballads… [With] music that transcends today's commercial rules."
USA Today adds "…His airy vocals recall vintage R&B stars, while
contemporary hip-hop and rock flavors along with artful, insightful
lyrics on love and life create an intriguing sound…" People
magazine gives him 3 out of 4 stars and simply states that "…Raheem
DeVaughn sounds as if he was rocking to Marvin Gaye in the cradle…"

Raheem Devaughn's extremely soulful and captivating live performances
have attracted superstar devotees such as Alicia Keys and Big Boi from
OutKast. Since the early days of his career, Raheem has been

I can't tell if it's "true" love and support or politics these days... But y'all do y'all. Still in 2003. But best believe, at thispoint, my check is already in my account before I advertise anything here... "Small check" that is... lol.

So what's the business tactic behind making your album available for free online? To make someone like listening to it on the computer so they feel theneed to buy one for the car? I'm in an infant stage of my business studies so maybe it's something I don't understand.

dk has a point.

normally one would just drop a 15-30 sec sample...

but hey...REAL money is mad on TOUR...

and rah is down for a 35 city tour with my girl jill scott, another grammy nom for 3 nods.

kev, what does a co sign have to do with a check being in your account beforehand?

and what exactly is a co sign if someone is agreeing to something? im confused.

lmao, dude is funny. and i truely hope ur not at events in DMV all smiles and tryna be on the scene, then on NT throwin shade. i wont speak for Ian,but I supportfolks from my area to the full.period.if u garbage,im not with it. but everytime i go out of state or out the country, u can catch me reppin and supporting. igot broads in LA gas'd to come to DC for Ican's events. i know dudes in france that think dopeville and grand high is the illiest. i now shorties inthe chi that think AM Radio is siiickk. why? becuase we show love.we all got the world lookin at us because MOST OF US, show luv and support. once again,u dou.not sure what u do in the game but,u seem like a wash post critic.anyway DK, to follow up the homie ican, labels, indie and major alike started using thefree lstening of albums cause its much cheaper than the cd singles we use to grab at kemp mill or pa palace or any record store. the budgets for those aloneare close in the 100,000's of dollars. just like anything, people buy what they like.most artist of true quality will use this tactic.if you notice, alot ofthe bum!%$$ artist cant try this.folks would never buy them.look at raheem's hustle,he records his mix cds with a guy i work with at a studio and payspennies to do it. he gains fan base without having to pay label for all that promo. also, most folks, unless u have recording equipment, cant download or recordthat streaming music that these artist will post,so they dont worry to much about bootleggers. truth is,most real music lovers want the cd,want to read thecredits and see the pics.over all,its much cheaper now days to do promo and all that online. and as ican stated, money is really made on the road. i could rundown a list of artist and tell u whos makin more money on the road, and u dont see their videos at all. shouts to eric roberson, that dude stays on tour and isdoing well.

How ya'll gonna go at it in a thread that has the title of the day that MLK was born??!!!!

Thank you sir, if you can't ask you can't tell...

Considering the Jay Z and Apple deal is only speculative as of know, I'm holding off on saying much until after we here it from Jobs himself which will bethis week. I don't picture Jay being announced as much more than a department head, although I do believe he is capable of more in the right position.

Well, considering the costs(and risks) from your album being pressed up at the plant, online distribution is not only cheaper, but more profitable. NOOVERHEAD.

A&R's dont develop artists anymore anyways, so there will be A LOT of people out of work once the digital downloading(such as iTunes) become THE placeto purchase music. If the Jay-Z/iTunes marriage is true, 2nd and 3rd tier artists will still be viable.

At this point, it's all about raising the profit margins. Raheem's 1st album barely sold over 150k. And it was a VERY solid effort. Jive isn'tnecessarily the bastion of black music,(but that's a different story for a different day) so his road work is definitely keeping him in public view.

It's sad he's dropping in this current state of affairs in the industry these days, but I do believe he'll do decent numbers this time around.Especially if he's getting that push outside of the I-95 corridor.

Definitely he's appreciated(and not just because he's a Morgan Alumni-shouts to my Derrick on his team....)

Man ... let's go support our hometown folks ... some of you may recall my rant on about supporting Tabi when his record came out ... same deal ... if wedon't buy it and push the movement then who will Chi-town, LA, ATL ????

Naw ...

If we are not behind it then who will be?

Gotta make a way for our local artist to be as big as the other artist in other major endemics!

Plus both artist need our push!

Let's put DC back on the map the way it was when I was younger ... but not for the same reasons!

This time let it be for the music and the artist in general

^Agree on lots of people being out of work...

I heard/read a rumour that CD would stop being pressed after this year, I cant confirm or recall the source. But I am sure I'm not the only one that hasheard/read this somewhere (a quick Google search brings up many articles and sources stating the very same) or forsees this coming in the very near future(similiar to everything else from beta tapes to analog TV in 2009 being replaced... its just the way it is). But in the mean time I personally cant justifypurchasing a digital album while CDs are still being pressed... specially because the digital album cost (usually 9.99) is just as much as the CD during thefirst week release (see Raheem for 9.98 this week at Target - so we dont lose focus of the thread)...

86i0xld.jpg

At 9.99 its hard not to buy a CD (then ripping if you really need it on your favorite mp3 player of choice) vs DL'n it from iTunes.

I think the ssssshhhh would be if I could buy a digital album from iTunes (or who ever else) and still have them mail me the pressed CD (for the collection,back-up purposes, to have the physical art work, and credits too, etc)
smokin.gif
but I doubt that happens

iTunes is great right now for those hard to find CDs (and lazy mutha)... thats about it... unless they reduce the price I just cant do it for the time being.

jpaycheck, thats not a bad idea.knowing the indusrty, they want their doe off everything so it may fly, might not.but good idea.

i def feel what yall saying shoedon and dk. a&r was a real job,now any joe blow dj can get a job doing it. they arent breeding the talent and developingfolks anymore. labels like jive focus more on the pop talent that really doesnt do that much better ,instead of focusing on peoples fav's like raheem.iwould love to see raheem drop one more cd in live recording format, bounce from jive and go indie on some wayna eric roberson tip.im still glad he got up in thegame either way. as for the apple merger,if it does go down, the switch up will start with alot of other labels.everyone already is buzzin about what theyshould do.
