Rajon Rondo

Question about Rajon Rondo because he's been hyped up as of recent. Esp. during these playoffs.

Is Rajon Rondo someone you could start a team around and be that guy, or is he simply playing well because of whats around him?
Everyones saying he's the best on the Celtics right now, but i think he's only playing well because of how good the guys are around him.

I dont think you could start a sqaud around him like you could With Deron Williams or Chris Paul.

Anyone else think this?

1.) You cannot start a squad around Deron Williams
2.) Just like Kobe, Lebron, or Wade, you need other stars/superstars around you to go far in the playoffs.

Rondo is prototypical pass first point guard. He attempts to make the players around him better and more involved in the game before he takes a shot. Some will say that he gets help from three future hall of famers, but does he not make guys like Glen Davis, Kendrick Perkins, and Eddie House all better with his penetration and passing ability?

If his shooting improves in the next couple of years, then yeah, he can be a player you can build around.

If I'm starting a team right now, I'll take Paul, Deron and D-Rose before him. Put him on the Bulls or Jazz instead of their respective and those teams are nowhere near as good.

Rondo is pass-first, which I love. He can also score, as evident by his 30+ point games.

He's my favorite player in the NBA right now, and if I was starting a franchise I'd be hard pressed to find someone else to start with. LeBron and Kobe are great, but they take away too many shots... I like the Celtics' team concept.

I wouldn't start a team around him as the 1st option... But he'd be perfect to have as an addition to an already good team.

he scored because teams usually back down and gave him a  20 foot radius to work with

. Everyone know this guy can't shoot or make a free throw to save his life. I wouldnt run my offense through Rondo scoring ability

what 30+ point games? i would guess that Steve Nash had more 30-point games this season than Rondo has had in his entire career.

Rondo is not a player who can take over a game offensively.. thats what separates him from current franchise PGs like CP3, Deron, Nash, Rose, etc. unless you want to win 45 games a year, you don't build a franchise around someone like Rondo.

he's still young though, so a lot remains to be seen.

Rondo is a championship caliber point guard. He knows his role and plays it well. Even though he may not be a great passer such as Chris Paul or Steve Nash or have the explosive scoring ability of a Derrick Rose, his defense is what separates him from the others. Plus, which point guard in recent memory, that a team has built around, has actually won a championship? I think Isiah Thomas was the last one I can recall and that was over 20 years ago.

if rondo eventually develops a consistent jumper, that dude is going to be a problem for years to come. he's already really good as it is now but his crappy shooting is his main problem.

No way. I don't see anyway you can build a team where he would have to shoulder the load night in and night out and see him put up CP3-esque #'s.

He's just NOT that good.

He plays no D, he has NO left hand, he's shooting 23% from the FT line, and he can't make a jumpshot to save his life.


Rondo is garbage. He's a decent rebounder I'll give him that. But it's easy to rack up assists when you play with KG, and Ray Allen. He's no consistent scoring threat whatsoever.

And yeah he has no left, but so what? Does that ever stop him from finishing @ the rim? Having a weak left hadn doesn't stop him from being an elite guard.

Rondo controls the pace of the game better than most point guards ... he makes great plays, and is a great rebounding point guard

w/ that being said his inability to shoot and hit Fts is a major detractor ...

watching him through these playoffs, during his highs .... i was like wow this guy's ceiling is pretty high

but he's not there yet, and still has a ways to go ...

w/ that being said he still not messing D-will, Paul, or Rose ...

If you put the necessary adjustments on Rondo and make him the focal point of the defense...his game drastically changes...as opposed to when teams put adjustments on DW, CP3, and Rose. They still manage their numbers. Rondo becomes damn near irrelevant.

Or am I making that up?

Exactly. You don't want to build around your point guard. You use a point guard to build around something better.

Unless you have Magic, or Isiah, if the point guard is the best player on your team, you're probably not winning the title.
