Ramadan Mubarak 2024

They pulled a fast one in Cali and said it starts Tuesday

The start of Ramadan can vary depending on moon sightings and community decisions.

In my community, we have decided to start fasting tomorrow, based on the guidance shared on Sunday. Their decision aligns with the message stating, "Based upon no reported sightings locally or in the United States, in cooperation with the Metro Atlanta Majlis AshShura, we will complete 30 days of Shaban and begin fasting for Ramadan on Tuesday, InshaAllah."

While Masjid Al-Farooq on 14th Street of Atlanta Metro has chosen to follow the Saudi sighting, started fasting today.

They’re reports that other countries have reported not sighting the crescent on Sunday.

This brings to mind the ayah, "So whoever sights the new moon of the month of Ramadan, let him fast it..." (2:185).

The question arises: should we always follow Saudi sightings, or should we prioritize what has been sighted within our own community?
