Do you think guys who have been backups their whole careers still get excited about Sundays? Do you think they secretly hope the main guy gets hurt so theycan swoop in and play and become a star or do you think they just kinda don't care after so long...? Just something I've always wondered about... inmy whole football career, I've only been a backup once and I couldn't stand it (I quit the team after three games

) so I can't imagine being a backup for years at a time...

Why they wouldn't want to come in and showcase their skills? (if they're talented, that is)..

A lot of guys haven't gotten the chance to show what they have in a meaningful NFL game and they're most likely hoping that they can get some spotlightso they can show off what they have to hopefully make more money. No reason for them to be content with being a backup.

I'm talking mostly about back-up QBs... I know every other position gets major burn whether they're a backup or not... I'm talking the DanOrvloskys, the Bruce Gradkowskis, the Josh McCowns and the J.T. O'Sullivans... I mean these dudes have been in the league multiple years but nobody'slooking to hire them to lead a team to the playoffs

Yeah.....because Alex Smith has been a career backup.

I was about to mention Matt Cassell.

Cassell didn't even start in college. He was a backup to Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC.

He was also a backup to 5+ years with New England.

Even if he bombs in KC, patience paid off.

Dude even switched positions at USC to get some burn,
