I'm reading Wild steps of heaven by Victor Villasenor.
It's a real good book, highly recommended

Just keep in mind that they're only classics because at some point, someone said it was an important book and it's been taught as such. PLENTY of great books exist that don't fall under the classics umbrella, but it's a good place to start for sure.

I loved A Brief History of Time.

If you're into Curb Your Enthusiasm or Seinfeld read The Stranger by Albert Camus. It's really short, the language is simple, but the situations and the main character's reactions are really interesting.
"Do you love me?"
"I don't think so, but that doesn't mean anything."

A Handmaid's Tale - basically, the radical religious right assassinates every member of the US government and turns most of the country into a crazy, very strictly religious, distopian society.
I wasn't crazy about it at first because I'm not a feminist, but once you get into it the entire story turns so twisted.

A Clockwork Orange- If you haven't read it, read it.
