I remember when I first saw the Penny Foamposites in footlocker (back when they had the hoop and backboard over the register), retailing for $200. At the time, that seemed like $1000 to me, and I had Air Jordans on my feet.

i think i've been doing it a while. i really don't care what other people buy, but i guess my biggest gripe is how so many people buy some of these ugly *** kicks. yuck

Kids these day put these sneakers on the pedestal.
Would like to see pics of the beaters that were spoken of though. Back when I was young I beat the hell out of all my sneakers. Didn't even care.
We beat our pairs for a number of reasons. (1) We actually wore them thinking(wishing) we could play like mike. (2) At over $100 most kids only got 2-3 pairs a year so there was no such thing as one to rock and one to stock. (3) We didnt think about shoes in terms of future monetary value. There was no Ebay, CL, IG, FB, Twitter marketplaces to sell your shoes and like someone said people only wanted the current model. To be honest as a kid you could've offered me double for any of mine and I would have looked at you like you were the craziest person on earth.

I remember when people thought 11s and foamposites were ugly when I wore them in HS. Only me n a few friends who were into basketball liked them. I thought the shoes were neat looking and extreamly comfy to ball in. Back then we called foams "penny's" and some ppl called 11s "patent leathers" 
. And so true about ppl hating on older releases and only wanting to rock the newest signature Jordans back then. Nowadays no one really gives a **** about the newer releases or anything past aj14...(except for maybe aj17. great shoes).

I hated the "pennys". Thought they were space boots and at $180 they were definitely a no go. I still dislike them to this day.

It is. The funny thing is my mom told me "Aww don't return those, I like them. One day they'll be worth money". But no, I had to get the "Carolina Teams". That's when Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison and Ed Cota were playing so Carolina anything was copped back then.

I can't even lie, that jordan pic with him crying and thanking us for buying the same shoes over and over hit a nerve. I don't see myself buying any that I have had twice before 1 OG and 1 retro is enough. I sold my bred 11s for 425. Thats crazy but I wasnt gonna talk the guy down. I think i will sell my second pair when they get here thu.

I think some of us older guys, I'm 31, have a tough time dealing with the madness. Just imagine if everyone just purchased what they liked. That's what we did as a kid. No one purchased a shoe just to post it the same day online for a $40 price increase. No one tried to make a living off of reselling. I think in essence we were all Hypebeast as kids. It's just the resellers and the madness of getting a shoe these days that makes this little hobby very frustrating.

The OG Flint 13's were my 2nd Jordan shoe my parents bought me. I wore those shoes everywhere. To play basketball, school, vacations etc. My parents were not going to shell out $100 for multiple pair of shoes. I was just happy my parents got me a pair of Jordans. I could care less what type of condition I put them through.

I'm 30 and I've been doing this for a while too. You always remember your first pair of Jordan's. I was in the 6th grade when my mom bought the Steel X's as a Xmas present. I've been buggin her for a pair of Jay's since the VIII's came out. Only took 2 years to finally get a pair.
I have the same frustrations as you. I really dislike resellers, the hype and the madness. It is what it is though. I just can't wait for this fad to fade away like the hype for SB dunks. I just wish Eastbay, Foot Locker and Foot Action had some kind of perks for people that been doing this for 10+ years.

Dang y'all are really taking me back. I got a pair of shoes before school started and a pair for Christmas growing up. I generally rocked K Swiss or Adidas, but one fateful Christmas after I got my Obsidians stolen, I had a fresh pair of Black/Red 12's under the tree. Moms felt bad that I got jacked at the skating rink and had em on ice all year for me. Thats love. Those had sentimental value for that reason alone...

Another story:
I was probably in kindergarten when the white/black/maroon 7s came out. I wore them to karate class and put them in my bag in a locker in the back changing room but didn't lock it. I get my bag after class and everything was in there except the shoes. I asked everyone in the studio if they'd seen them. I'm pretty sure one of the older kids from a class before or after mine took them. All ended well though because I think my grandparents bought me the black/grey/maroon 7s to replace those.

i remember when kids would skip school to cop jordans.
i remember when i would have my eyes glued to the tv just so i could see what shoes players were wearing on the court.
and back then dont get caught slippin in an older jordan model or you would get roasted.
