Is it really possible? At the beginning of last year I said, I'm only getting the Olympic 6's And the XI's but I bought 15 plus pairs of shoes.  I said only the Maroon 6's this year if they drop but for some reason I sabotaged my own self, sold my 2006 Grape V's while lusting for the new release V's, posted my OG "He got Games" for sale while contemplating buying the new release "Games." And what takes the cake is I'm suddenly in love with XX3's, 2011's, 2012's and just bought some XX2's of all things. What going on in my head. Anybody else with similar dilemmas?

How old are you? I'm guessing not old enough to have your priorities striaght. I'm not tryna come off mean at all. In time you'll learn that it isn't that serious, you don't need every release, or multiple colorways of each shoe. in time you'll become selective.

Lol this is probably a different situation. But I used to buy and collect Jordans when I was younger. Then for about 5-6 years I stopped caring for shoes and didn't buy anything for a very long period of time. Starting back a couple months ago I been buying up almost every single Jordan Retro release because of a sudden urge for the love again. smh lol.

Same here. The cement 3s from a few years back where my last pair until Decembers bred 11s. I have a kid so it's rare for me to buy a pair now. If anything I've been downsizing. U just gotta get priorities straight.

I'm in my 30's, home life is great, priorities come first and second and I'm not really a big new release guy I usually buy some shoe that I hated on release day and I never buy doubles and the two pair I named that released last year were the only new release I bought. I really just bought alot of none Bulls colorway J's but I'm just wondering if retirement is possible. I was one of those cats who parents only bought them 1-2 two pair of shoes a year back when these shoes were dropping originally and the second pair were usually a clearance pair. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

You will eventually get old of jordans, not completely but, not care about them as much as you were young. Like me I use to die for every Jordan release back in day when MJ was in the game and now I just collect them every now and then.

i feel u on not getting tons of shoes when u were a kid. i remember not being able to get a pair of 13's when i was in 6th grade (although i did have a pair of amazing pro strongs). when the 13s retroe-ed in 04 i was a poor college student and was only able to afford the flints. now with all the 13s coming out in the past 2 years i find myself wanting them all. im in my late 20's with my own priorities, but that doesnt stop me from wanting any 13 that comes out.

Well no harm no foul. I used to be like that. Until quality got cheaper and cheaper. Now I'm selective. I'm in the JB section a lot since I copped the Wht/Cements, which got my interest back in Jordan's a lil. But I only buy 2-4 pairs yearly. Being very selective helps. Turning away from the JB section helps.

See that's the thing I remember when MJ use to actually play but like most then we were either ultra selective as far thinking the new J's looked funny or couldn't get them. I actually think it's my older age that lets me look at these shoes in a different light and sites like Ebay and CL that allow you to actually get a decent deal on them, that fuels me.

My first pair of J's were the black V's in 8th grade. Got them on sale because the VI's were coming out. Then played my senior basketball season in black X's. got those on sale because the XI were coming out.

Then in 98 bought a pair of the retro V's. And once I graduated from college I started buying every release. Got up to about 60 pairs. Then I met my wife. Got married and had my son and bought a house. Sold the whole collection. That was in 2004.

Now coming back to the scene at the end of 2012. 8 year break from the scene and the interest is sparked again. But this time I am being picky about which J's I am picking up.

Its possible to retire. Im 28 and use to buy just about every OG colorway retro back in the day (2005-2009). Im burned out by the brand. I didnt even buy that many retros last year and the ones that I did, I sold a few months after having. The intense passion I had for Jordans is just about dead. I still every now and then, but I no longer feel the urge to buy every single release anymore.Im trying to limit myself to only 8-9 retros this year and most of those are the OG Jordan 1s.

Part of the reason is that i luckily can say that ive owned just about every Jordan grail that ive always wanted (5 pairs of Bred 1s, 4 pairs of Bred 11s, 3 pairs of Concords, 2 pairs of Royals, 5 pairs of White Cement 3s, 2 pair of Playoff 13s, 2 pair of White Cement 4s, 2 pair of Black Cement 4s, and thats just the multiples of shoes that ive had)

Man, good for you but my girl is no help. She encourages me,LOL and the funny thing is, she's a Advanced Practice Nurse and I have to buy her new shox and air max to wear with her scrubs or she will walk a pair in the ground, the kids just like looking at them, even though I refuse to buy them for them. But I'm feeling you on the break, my turn is coming. SOON!

I barely buy anything anymore as far as the retro Jordan's go. Getting more difficult just trying to get a pair with raffles and ticket nonsense. I like to wear my shoes but it's getting to the point where I tend to forget what I have unless it's in my rotation for the weekend. Already get to wear Jordan's for work, but they have to be black based in color for work. So a lot of the pairs I wear for the weekend are usually white based. Already semi-retired, heading more towards retirement by years end unless I get more "Nike Air" retro's. I think that's the only thing that will bring me back unless the quality is lacking on those, which will be an easy pass.

I thought it was possible... i'm 33 and at one point was a member of the og niketalk in 2001.  dropped out the game due to divorce, Life.  Then the love slowly drew me back.  Not just for jordan brand.. for the shoes.  Like most of you OG's my late dad refused to spend 100.00+ on some shoes.  I'll never forget when I asked for the fire red 5's and my late father came home with some shoes in a bag... black and red box... I almost lost my breath as I pulled the shoes out the BAG.............AVIA!!!!

What the ******???? My friends were sporting Bo's jackson Sc trainers highs, etc... on top of that the shoes were white and forest green

.  I got clowned so bad I started cutting grass in 6th grade.  By 8th grade I had my own lawn cutting business.. and bought my first J's along with anything I desired along with being a 3 sport athlete and didn't depend on my parents to buy my shoes or clothes..mind you I started at 12yrs.  One lesson pop taught me is if you work hard you can have what you want.  If you love shoes then why retire?? If you love the feeling of putting on a fresh pair of nike's or Jordan's why retire?  You know most women never retire from buying shoes.... they just get shorter heels

.  If your like me and have your priorities in order have God first family second and let everything else fall in line... you can always buy your kicks.

Don't retire from something you love

What's your motivation for 'retiring'?

I'm 32, have a wife, a career, etc and I still buy too many kicks. All my bills are paid and money goes into savings, etc. for me, the company I work at is very casual even for people in management like myself so instead of having fancy ties and suits I rock kicks.

Like others have said, no need to buy every release - only buy the ones that you love and will actually value having.

Retiring :lol thats laughable. Collecting shoes is not an obligation folks. You don't retire, you just STOP.

Its all about self-control. I bet if you tried your hardest to stay away from this forum and focused your attention onto something else, you'll eventually learn to move on. But why move on, I love shoes and always will. I'm older, married, job, obligations. Shoe's take the stress away. Shoes are my childhood, and bring me back to a time of youth. As you get older, I've learned that in time, you become more picky and choosey of the shoes you keep. Wolf grey 2012's & Obsidian XII's were the only Jordans I bought in 2012. I'm less about the flash and more about the nostalgia of a shoe, and this is why I stay.

Staying off nt helps. Out or sight out of mind. Hypebeast or not, reading about all these shoes is gonna make you want to cop something. The hard part for me is letting go of pairs I rarely wear...

i'm 31 and finally its hit me, not to mention the quality of these jays have pushed me to be super selective

last jordan i bought were aqua VIIIs. They're just...everywhere now lol. If you go to the mall on a friday or saturday night it looks like theres an air jordan convention going on. The ONLY jordan i would consider copping are the columbia XI's because i've never had those.

Everytime i travel, the only sneakers i bring are black metalic Vs. was actually thinking of trading all my j's and just get a bunch of black Vs lol.

thats really all i need in terms of J's.

but i will ALWAYS love the designs and story of air jordans. esp 1-14.

Also in my 30's... I've been trying to retire for the past 4-5 years... 2 years ago I finally decided to turn my hobby in to a part time thing instead of full-time with some overtime. I've been pretty good with passing on certain releases and budget myself. I just pick and choose which release I'm going to get. If I miss out I just move on to the next with no bitter feeling about missing out.

Im 31 and have been contemplating retirement as well. As a kid Jordans were mythical to me, I could never have a pair, my mom and dad would laugh when i asked for a pair of kicks that were 100. I consider myself lucky, because i was still able to get nikes, albeit not the MJ's. I had a few pairs of pippens, also the air raid when they first came out. I remember wearing the air raid in 6th grade and getting my first dose of props on my footwear. the feeling was intoxicating.

first pair of J's i got was in high school, junior year. blindside surprise by mom and pops. came home and a silver box was on the bed, the 13's (he got game). First day i wore them some dude from my school tried to run me for em. got lumped on the city bus but held on to the kicks. once i finally was putting money in my own pocket was able to ride the retro wave and get almost all the pairs i saw as a kid and wanted. now that ive had most of those pairs, the love is dying a little bit. most retros coming out this year, ive owned at one point or another. im sure there are people in the same boat with me.
