Retiring from Jordan Shoes

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

35 years old ( been on NT since it was in the first Kicks Mag) and pretty much have been in ":retirement" for a few years on the Jordan retro stuff. I only buy what I really like and sneakers that I feel comfortable actually playing basketball in. In the past 10 years I have gotten just 5 pairs of Jordans, Retro 11 black and red, concords and cool greys. Jordan 9's in white/black and Jordan 12 playoffs. Only shoes I have missed that I wanted is Space Jams and hoping they release the Taxi 12's.

Other than that I am good for a couple of running shoes and performance bball shoes a year and thats it.

My suggestion is just buy what you really want and like. No need to have every pair that release

I'm in my 30's, home life is great, priorities come first and second and I'm not really a big new release guy I usually buy some shoe that I hated on release day and I never buy doubles and the two pair I named that released last year were the only new release I bought. I really just bought alot of none Bulls colorway J's but I'm just wondering if retirement is possible. I was one of those cats who parents only bought them 1-2 two pair of shoes a year back when these shoes were dropping originally and the second pair were usually a clearance pair. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I am in the same boat as you. I think its like an addiction. Probably stemming from the fact that when were kids our parents couldnt get these for us. Now when we have the money we buy them based off the want we had as kids. I am 33 and stopped buying J's and sold them all when i became 24 and started up again when i was 29. My collection is bigger now then before.

For me it just got boring, plain & simple. I'm not jumping through hoops to get my hands on a shoe that I usually can't even get my normal discount on anyway. J's will always be like a drug anyway - so much hype/anticipation but as soon as you cop the process starts all over again for the next one.

I buy mostly running shoes nowadays. Easy cop, heavy discounts, wear way more frequently than any J's and lower % of resellers altering the market

I am kind of the opposite from a lot of you guys.  I am 31, played basketball in black/cement IV's, black/metallic V's, and black/infrared VI's.  No idea what my mom did with those after I wore the hell out of them.  But I was fortunate that my parents could buy a $100 pair of shoes for me each year.  My friends and I were all over Jordan and the Flight Club and all that.  As I got older I didn't even really pay attention to a lot of the newer J's, never thought they could live up to my memories of the old ones.  Now I've kinda gotten back in to the game and am trying to pick up some new releases and just fill in some gaps here and there of quality stuff that I missed while I wasn't paying attention.  Really looking forward to the black tongue V's that are coming out later this year.  Always wanted those when I was a kid.

i actually started building my collection then selling off a bunch of them then rebuilding later... i definitely got bored.

i think once i achieved my goal of a DS 2000/01 XI collection and had all the Foam ones/pros I sought after, I was like hmmmm what do I do now?

Just buy what you like and dont worry about "keeping up"! Keeping up is kick of hypebeastish if you ask me

Buy what you "REALLY" like and dont get caught in the hype. You will eventually reach a mindset that they are just shoes and they cant
do anything for you at the end of the day. Having an extra $$$ in the bank account is :smokin

Only bought one pair of 4's in 2012. Nothing coming out is of any appeal

Good to see alot of people in the same boat in the same age range with similar experiences...feels good.  I'll never forget one day I was in a local mall a few years back and saw this man in his mid 50's... fresh new pair of Jordan xx2's on with the outfit to match.  Though he was oldschool I could see myself in his shoes (not literally) one day.  The truth is most specialists encourage people to get a hobby in life... and most people have their Hobbies FOR LIFE.  Yeah you may slack off, take a break but if you love it your always back.  In the end shoes will always be here... and if you retire you can always come back in and pick up where you left off.  Most of us with kids and families have busy lives now... but what do you plan to do when the kids grow up move out and real Retirement is Near...and your body won't let you play sports... Man to look back at a massive collection of kicks then would be priceless.

Huh, where did this come from, lol. Thing is I use to teach school and wore slacks and Cole Haans, mostly. My prime daily erasers were Air Max and Puma GV's. I honestly just bought Jordans that I got at outlets or super cheap used. But like I said earlier I bought 2 pair at retail in 2012. Not a problem finance wise but I'm the type who doesn't believe in addictions(try to kill them before they start). I'm really enjoying everybody's feedback though!

I have been addicted to shoes since I first saw one of my classmates own the Black/Infrared VI's in 4th grade and my other friend had some Reebok Pumps. While I had some Payless shoes and dudes would make fun of me. My first ever Jordan I owned were the Powder Blue X's that I got as a graduation gift. But then in high school I started working and I straight up started becoming a shoe Fien. Not just on Jordan Shoes but on alot of Bball Shoes. (Uptempos, Penny's, Barkely's etc etc.) But then stopped buying kicks when I got married and have a child to support and buying a house. Now I'm slowly buying shoes again and one day I'll pass these shoes to my son when he's older.

This right here. I'm a sucker for black/red colorways but passed/passing on the XIII because I don't really like it. Only have 1 release on my radar so far for this year... Like the media assassin Harry Allen said, "Don't believe the hype"

I'm actually the opposite from a lot of yall. Most of you have these big life reasons for stopping your collecting habits, but for me Jordan has really become symbolic in my life. I lost my girl friend, lost a lot of money, got into a ton of trouble with the law, and to me Jordan has been the only thing to keep my mind away from all of this non-sense from the world. Just reading about the culture, the shoes, and even the hype makes me feel more alive. In some certain aspects, I feel as if Jordans are one of the only things that I love that I have left. Because of this, I really do love every pair that I own. I'm not older yet, I'm only 20 years old. However, I don't think I'm classified as one of those young kids who just simply are attracted to Jordans that you guys talk about. I really have a strong connection with my shoes; I even wear a certain pair depending on how I feel that day to express myself. I'm also a strong advocate for Jordans as a representation of the hip hop culture. JB has been iconic for me

Im 31 and have been contemplating retirement as well. As a kid Jordans were mythical to me, I could never have a pair, my mom and dad would laugh when i asked for a pair of kicks that were 100. I consider myself lucky, because i was still able to get nikes, albeit not the MJ's. I had a few pairs of pippens, also the air raid when they first came out. I remember wearing the air raid in 6th grade and getting my first dose of props on my footwear. the feeling was intoxicating.

first pair of J's i got was in high school, junior year. blindside surprise by mom and pops. came home and a silver box was on the bed, the 13's (he got game). First day i wore them some dude from my school tried to run me for em. got lumped on the city bus but held on to the kicks. once i finally was putting money in my own pocket was able to ride the retro wave and get almost all the pairs i saw as a kid and wanted. now that ive had most of those pairs, the love is dying a little bit. most retros coming out this year, ive owned at one point or another. im sure there are people in the same boat with me.
+1
