RIP George Floyd

22.5 years is not enough. That said, this is a MUCH better outcome than most trials similar in nature we were seeing a few years ago. Oscar Grant's killer was released from prison 10 years ago this month, after only serving 2. For something just as egregious and horrifying - the video-captured murder of an unarmed, complicit, and powerless man.

As gross as it is to think Chauvin will be out in 22 years max, at least it's not as disrespectful and infuriating as Mehserle's sentencing and early release, or the countless other similar instances we've seen in this country. Hopefully we start seeing real justice in this country within our lifetimes.

For whatever it's worth, I think I read somewhere the average time served for a murder charge is around 14 years.

Sure but how many murderers are caught on video smiling and waving to the camera for 9 minutes while murdering someone in one of the most sadistic possible ways? Chauvin shouldn't be held against the average. His demeanor that he showed, no remorse or sympathy for a living human being, as he cut off his airway and took the life of George Floyd, is not what I'd consider an "average" murder.

Definitely. I wish he would have gotten the max sentence.

man u know those people doin that or longer for nonviolent offenses, drugs or otherwise, are getting royally violated. those people should be released outright. I'm preaching to the choir I'm sure...

So on good behavior he'll be out in 15 :smh:

Remember he still has tax evasion charges, another unrelated assault charge as well as federal civil rights violation charges.

Still seems light given the explicit nature of the crime; if the roles were reversed, George Floyd gets life w/o parole. Guess it's a start.

MN doesn't have life without parole. Minimum life sentence is 30 years for 1st degree murder.

As soon as the judge started rambling I already knew what time it was. :smh:

There are cats in prison for 20+ years for possession of some green, and this dude gets 22.5 years? FOH! I’m glad he’ll be behind bars for a long *** time, but it still feels like a half-assed sentence.

And they said on the report I was watching that the norm there is to do 2/3 - and then the last part in some sort of open prison or house arrest. So 15 years - still a long time especially for a cop who murdered someone (and by that because I mean he’ll have a tough time or spend it alone) but not nearly long enough.

Tf is a special hug? Some incest ****? 🤢🤢🤢

Idgaf about her white tears at all. He should've got the chair.

14-15 is the max for 2nd degree in MN I believe. The judge added more years because he killed Floyd in front of children and other factors. So kudos to the judge for that and him denying the defenses motion for a new trial.

I’m curious as to how long this man will live after he’s completed his jail sentence. Dude would have to pray nobody recognizes him and retreat somewhere secluded. Become a total shut-in or face getting your *** kicked by strangers.

All he has to do is move to Utah, Idaho, or Wyoming and he will be fine.

George Zimmerman is still alive too, I thought Florida killers would've tried him already.
I thought that clown moved when he started getting death threats and he started getting into altercations again. He’s probably armed 24/7
