22.5 years is not enough. That said, this is a MUCH better outcome than most trials similar in nature we were seeing a few years ago. Oscar Grant's killer was released from prison 10 years ago this month, after only serving 2. For something just as egregious and horrifying - the video-captured murder of an unarmed, complicit, and powerless man.
As gross as it is to think Chauvin will be out in 22 years max, at least it's not as disrespectful and infuriating as Mehserle's sentencing and early release, or the countless other similar instances we've seen in this country. Hopefully we start seeing real justice in this country within our lifetimes.
For whatever it's worth, I think I read somewhere the average time served for a murder charge is around 14 years.
