Ultimately, a black man’s dead body was found by police near Penn State as one of the death threats said it would. And some black students had to attend their graduation the following May with bulletproof vests on in fear of their life.

Maaaaaaaan, **$% that school.

You people that even look down at Joe Pa for not doing anything are without a doubt looking for someone to judge, someone to look down one because there is NO WAY, that this Sandusky scandal was his fault...

Could he have done more??? MAYBE.. I'm not even going to say that yes he should've done more, because how would you feel if your assistant comes to you saying "HEY YOUR FRIEND OF 50+ YEARS IS #%***%# LITTLE BOYS" .... It's not like JOE PA saw it himself, its not like Joe Pa didn't tell anyone.

He told his uppers & they chose to do nothing... Too many times in society we look at people from too many angles, if JoePa had a radical opinion on government, gay marriage ETC people would just say "he's just a football coach, what does he know". But now that a whole University decided to look the other way after an incident was reported we say Joe Pa should've done more... NAH it doesn't make sense....

He's from a time where you sign a contract over a beer & lucy. He never touched a little boy, he never SAW RAPE & decided to ignore it... a lot of people need more things to go in they're own lives before you sit back & judge a guy like Joe Paterno. 40+ years at he same job, no problems & yet some people want to say EVERYTHING he worked for got tarnished because of someone else..... YALL MAKE ME SICK

All I have to say is that a lot of dudes would be acting differently if Paterno was their grandfather. Just like a lot of dudes would be acting differently if it was their kid that was being molested.

I saw him at the Phyrst last night. Just looked at him and laughed.

And I agree with your statement about if it was their grandfather or kid being involved. It's easy to sit back and speak from a keyboard when you have no personal involvement with a situation, but if you were really involved it would be much harder to make a any decisions

DoubleJs- How credible is that news site that story is from? The "news briefs" are the most random garbage stories mixed together. The comments by people that read them are pure comedy. Most of the comments are literally the dumbest comments I have read about Penn State

At the end of the day there's really not much else to say about Paterno that hasn't already been said.

Harbored a child molester and was basically an enabler to Sandusky.

Never took the information he had to proper authorities in fear of his legacy being tarnished.

Students and alum claim he is a football genius and an amazing overall human being, yet his defense for ignoring child molestation is that he "didnt understand"

Gotta agreed with DaJoka

If he dies he dies.

I simply have a hard time celebrating a man's death. We all know the story (tragedy) that unfolded (and continues to unfold). We have discussed levels of responsibility to its end, and how much it tarnishes a legacy. That's fine and worth discussion for another day. But I can't celebrate and cheer for the death of a man that died with a broken spirit. Condolences to family, friends, and really anyone that has been affected by this passing

What does that even mean? I dont know if anybody on here has harbored a child molester but I know I haven't. Everyone does dirt every once in a while but some dirt has more consequences than others. When that consequence is giving a chance for a child molester to molest more kids on your campus then you will receive blame. That's at the end of the day. This man that you guys are saying was a great leader and of great character was weak when he was needed the most.

Now I'm not celebrating his death or anything like that. I feel awful for his family but I also feel awful for the victims that are being forgeten in this whole thing.

If there is anything to make you lose faith in humanity, then it's this scandal and how the leaders of this school( including JoePa) didn't do +%%! to keep kids safe from a child molester who molested kids on campus! That's disgusting man, think about that.

It's a tragedy all around. I feel terrible to the kids and it's very sad that JoePa's life ended on a sour not but he has to receive some blame for this whole thing. A man of great power as he was, should have done more to protect the kids.
The Other Penn State Cover-Up: Death Threats Against Black Students
Hate mail to black students and a death, all swept away by PSU

As news unravels around the grand jury report revealing charges against former Penn State football defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky for raping and sexually molesting underage boys, some former black Penn State students are now painfully reliving a scandal that occurred at their university ten years ago. In 2000, the year a janitor witnessed a boy younger than 13 (“Victim 8

If this was directed at me, then you may need to reread what I've typed. I don't think I've suggested that it was an excuse, I've simply stated that he was from a different era, where things were handled however inappropriate, but differently. I've also suggested that perhaps Paterno got off easy by dying before Sandusky was able to kill himself. The other way around may, Sandusky falling on his sword, may have allowed Paterno to save some face.
Am I happy that Paterno is dead? I don't know, I wanted him to stand trial. My personal issue is that white boys have been getting away with crimes like this, then even worse, for centuries, all the way up to the Vatican. Perhaps Paterno's internal guilt has taken care of him. As was mentioned earlier in this thread by many, he dropped the ball, then should have been held accountable for his lack of action.

At the end of the day, perhaps his conscious may have wielded an even more definitive verdict, deep from within.

That 'Loop21' site the article was on is what I meant.

Also... "State and university police maintain that the death does not seem to be related to the university. An April 28 university police memo states: "The State Police have no reason to believe that this apparent homicide has any relationship to the hate mail incidents that occurred at Penn State. Moreover, no Penn State students have been reported missing."

That is a quote from the link you posted that took me to 'The Final Call". Penn State Wilkes Barre is up near Pittston/Scranton, Pa, two hours away from the University Park campus and isn't the most friendly of areas to begin with. There are over 19 PSU campuses in the state, so in my opinion when things happen at other branches you shouldn't lump them in to the University Park scandal because they don't work that closely with eachother

Loop...Bomani Jones linked it. Seems credible to me.

And if you read the article, other students, who were in fear of what would happen to black athletes, went to Paterno with their concerns....and felt like they were brushed off.  This is why everything is linked back to State College.

Yes you can link it but it doesn't mean he is responsible for that random person that died. It just seems like people are trying to link things back to him when is isn't involved. Not matter what I say you will have your opinion and keep trying to make connection to how joe paterno is responsible for everything bad in the world. Just cause he "brushed it off" doesn't mean he didn't take it into consideration.
