RIP New York Hip-Hop? (Need Some Feedback)

But they DO spend money on merch and shows.

Albums are an outdated metric.

Why spend money on an album when Apple Music is the same price with unlimited music?

A lot of those artist aren't even making it to apple, they're going to datpiff. They're selling and streaming mixtapes on apple after they've built a career and fanbase(Gucci, Fab and Chance).

Albums and radio aren't outdated, because there's a difference in being able to tour regionally and do shows in front of a few hundred and having a national fanbase and tour as such.

The cycle of music is so fast there's no guarantee that those artist that are touring and hot today will be popular enough in two or three years.

NYC is sadly on the decline, bc there are no more dope producers like back then. The five boroughs lost the distinct sound that skyrocketed them to the top in first place. But as far as MCing goes, NY was, is, and always will be the ****. Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers, Pro Era, and A$AP Mob have all produced fat tracks over the past few years. A$AP Rocky and Joey Bad***** are top-10 rappers without doubt. ATM New York doesnt sell like they used to (with a few exceptions) but the rap produced is as good as ever.

All these dumb *** "fans" only want to hear ****** "rap" over trap beats. NYC artist do it then they get accused of d riding the south wave. Then they stick to the essential lyrical rap over grimy production and it becomes we can't let go of the past and need to "evolve our sound". You can't win with these new _s

It's a few reasons why Ny lost its spot. Most on here are going to disagree.1.Selfishness,2.Haters in y'alls city killing the potential future front runners.3.Rappers burning bridges with one another.1.Most of the OG,s don't want to find and cosign new talent.Even though it would be easy to do.Its to much of a headache. And its alot of work behind the scenes.I heard Camron say in a recent interview. He doesn't have the patience right now.To help or write 80 songs for someone new to get a buzz.He was talking about his recording process with Vado. What it took to get him buzzing. He left with Khaled.Which was a bad decision.Because his sound and style was with Cam.He lost his momentum by leaving. Now he wants to do it over with Cam again.Cam is like nope. You ran off after Cam got you a deal from delivering a unique sound. The sound was Cam and Vado on Araabmuzik beats.Nas helped push Dave a East.Jay could care less. Its sad.Because Hov has the power and bread to build another dominant rap label. With multiple groups like before. You would think he would do it to save Ny right now.But he's not.2.Yalls future was right in front of y'all. And it crumbled fast.Rocafella and Dipset.Think about all of the talent that branched out from it.That wasn't even apart of it.French is holding it down for Ny.That is Max B entire vision and style.Hes locked up.He would be tag teaming with French right now.Keeping Ny alive with a unique sound.Stacks got killed.Theres no way in hell he should've been walking around alone. While still staying in the projects. After having the buzz he had.I don't care if he was dirt poor broke.People offered to move him out.He didn't want to leave. He had a meeting set up with Hov.But he declined.Because it was taken him to long.So he went with Jim.Chinx gets murked as well.3.Most of the artist that where on top in Ny after 2000 didn't **** with each other. The South had unity, and still does. When all of the rappers and producers do business together.Yoyr going to win for a longer period of time. Those are the factors of why Ny is not dominating right now.

Lol so come up with something new like LA and the South did. Or put a new spin on something old. A lot of the beats Boi-1da/Vinylz gives Drake (0-100, 6PM in NY, 4PM in Calabassas) are East Coast flavored but still modern.

When snap Soulja Boy/D4L beats became old ****** in the South didn't cry about it, they innovated and out comes Lex Luger's sound which influenced this entire decade so far.

NY been catching up to the South production wise since forever though. Since Cam had to ask y'all when the **** y'all started bouncing. Since Timbaland and The Neptunes. Since Zay and Lex.

The south ain't come up with **** new. It's the same garbage it's ever been. "Crunk" evolved to "trap" dudes went from talking about getting low to selling drugs only thing that changed. LA is always gonna be LA YG's albums sound like classic West from the 90's and nobody criticizes because no one hates on LA. Everybody got NYC balls in they mouth

Disagree. LA and the west coast in general was Dormant for much of the 2000's, save for Game. What did they do? Invent NEW sounds. Hyphy. Then the mustard sound. And TDE

While YG's albums have a classic LA feel, they are based in Mustard's sound. Which is a mix of Bay, LA and southern type production. They came up with something NEW.

The same way the south evolved. NYC had yet to do it. So either NYC is biting the south (see Desiigner) or rapping on 90s hallway beats.

A$AP Mob is really the only act to bring something entirely fresh to the table recently. NYC needs better producers. I don't understand why more dudes don't work with Harry Fraud

Trash is trash. You know the south is weak when their claim to the "throne" is production and production only. Yall _s don't be saying **** at all

People still claim asap rocky makes Texas music which is utter bullcrap. DJ mustard had nothing to do with YG's second album which is a damn near classic. You talking about hyphy when that's the bay **** has nothing to do with LA. Kendrick Lamar who is the best rapper out hands down doesn't have one ounce of Southern influence in his music at all his **** is straight g funk 90's West coast influenced. Yall pick and choose who yall want to hate on

****** always want to use this weak *** designer argument but never want to acknowledge the fact that probably the biggest southern rapper ever didn't become a megastar until he started riding NYC **** something serious.

T.I., OutKast, Goodie Mob, Scarface, UGK, J. Cole, Clipse, Pre-2008 Wayne, Little Brother, Kevin Gates, David Banner don't be saying **** at all?

The fact that we've controlled the last 20 years production wise is just a cherry on top.

If you aren't educated on a topic just ask questions man.
