Rooting and kindle fire?

I was wondering anyone on here know about the android rooting scene? I am a mac/ios man myself and pretty much know all the ins and outs about ipad/iphone/macbook etc... but android not so much.

My kids have kindle fire (the og not hd) and i have been reading a little about it and the whole rooting process and understand it isnt the same as jailbreaking. From what i read rooting is more or less nothing more thn unlocking disabled features and settings set by the maker of the device. I guess what im asking is how do you do it? What are some advantages of doing it? Can you add and customize it ala cydia etc...for ios? Can you get cracked apps/emulators/roms etc?

Ive looked (googled) all over the web amd pretty much all ive seen is you can optimize the device..(make it run faster) tweak/customize whats already on the device...and unlock features disabled by default. Any insight would be appreciated.

im on there and i really dont see much...also no knock to android users etc...but so far from what im reading i dont see the whole "it" or "wow" special thing about rooting.... Like i said i just see oh it will run faster and you can unlock default features.

Jailbreaking = rooting, same benefits. Freedom to add/move/change your device with what's out there. iOS is a more controlled arena though, so you'll get more heat just based on the focus.

oh ok went to the site you suggested (i was on there anyways lol) i mean is there a cydia version on android... repos etc.... is there an alternative android market etc... ? I mean im on the site and it basically is a discussion forum for ppl who are already in the know. It really from what i see isnt a newbie, introductory site or learning site etc....

Yeah it can be rough for a newbie, just gotta dive in and find the guides, there should be one for each device. All android devices aren't the same, so it's not as easy as iOS. And there's no cydia, just google play and amazon appstore, but you can find tons of useful free apps on them, also just about all paid apps cracked on the internets.
