IMO the video is about the rebirth throughout kanye's career. the video opens with him running. then cuts into a scene with ye riding his car and finding the phoenix that just crashed down on earth. ( i think that represents his car accident and coming into the game.)

then he says to the phoenix "first rule, never believe what you see in the news." (katrina/george bush dont like black people incident. we all know how he felt about that)

the phoenix starts touching and analyzing everything around her in the world like the animals and what not. (ye getting a feel for the game...dropped late registration and graduation)

then the scene comes with ye playing with a beat and a sample from power. phoenix was feeling it and started dancing. (most people are feeling kanye's music)

phoenix was then taken by kanye to see fireworks. (i mean this pretty much is clear that this means kanye is blowing up)

then...we saw the phoenix come in the room with ye and everyone was talking about her and when the dude said she's beautiful and something else that turned ye off. (
the dinner scene is showing that no matter how hot your music is, someone is always going to be there to criticize you. the most common criticism is that ye is not original because he uses samples.)

...the phoenix is then seen down and out. asks ye about statues and says that whenever someone is different...this planet always tries to change them. (ye comiing into the game not rocking jerseys? how about 808s and heartbreaks ring a bell? everyone was criticizing him and saying why is ye doing an autotune album)

finally...the phoenix tries to dip earth and ye is chasing her....i dont know what to think about that. maybe ye wants to leave the game alone but his passion for music is what keeps him coming back.

video was good in my opinion.

I think this is a bit of a stretch... but i still like the interpretation.

On Ellen Ye said it was basically the story of a beautiful being falling to earth and people here trying to change her into what they want and won't let her just be her self.  I think that was pretty much what was portrayed.  I think that is introspective on the surface.  As in Ye wants to express himself and won't let society change him.  But the whole "phoenix touching things" = Ye getting to know the game....i just think that was a foreign creature becoming familiar with the world she know lives in.  I don't think every scene was to be broken down into his career.

Moral of the story.  Don't let anyone change you.  Everyone is beautiful in their own way blah blah blah...you get it.

My point is that some of u guys are literally IN LOVE with College Dropout/ Fresh off the car accident Kanye. Whichever one of you dumb %%%!% posted his quote from 7 years ao "you @$+!!@ where suits cuz u cant dress no mo"... I think he was 23 or 24 when he said that. Different mind set. As if dude of all people is forced to wear suits and didn't choose to do so.

I'm just now watching the video. I like it, its creative and something that pushes hip hop in a new direction. Dudes watching this expecting to see thriller or the departed or some cinematic classic need to fall back.
If Kanye wanted display his evolution as an artist, he should have taken some basic film classes and invested in a talented choreographer.

Son, tell me you know the difference between a cinematographer and a choreographer.

I enjoyed it. Some of you are just being crab %$% $@+@@#

It's all good tho, the film wasn't for everybody. I know how much hard work went into making it and I can imagine how important it was for dude as an artist. I hope some of you critics can get that crustacean out of ya blood. I wish the best for kanye. D
I was talking about the ballet scene and the overall mise-en-scene of the film.  He would have been better off designing this as a cinematic ballet.
this is the definition of pseudo-art. kanyes trying way way way too hard to be creative and its failing. you cant just make a montage of loosely-related stuff with your cd as background music, put it in slow mo and call it art.

pseduo-art?

And Ye is the one trying hard? What human has the credibility to label anything 'pseduo' ? That's the irony behind individuals who use that prefix in their vocabulary

Since you wrote the book...Why don't you go ahead and school us on what constitutes REAL-art...

Speaking of that... his candor/speech during the promotion of this project on a scale of 1-10 of sounding like a member of the LGBT community is very high....or at the highest it has ever been #justsayin

Now imagine how powerful the parallel would have been if Kanye was either the phoenix or not in the film.

The night of the event i ended up working it so it got OD crazy and I left before the screening ... Next day they showed it to us in the office .... I enjoyed the Runaway scene, the Power Scene, and that was really it ... Beautiful visual in my opinon, but i didnt really connect with the storyline

You should watch the Q and A with Sway online because he kind of reveals a little more about it
