School me on Dj'ing

I'm starting at a campus radio station pretty soon. I want to start actual Dj'ing, more than just having a bunch of cool equipment and playing my ipod;what do I need to get to started? Good priced turntables, good Mixers etc. what does everything do? Such as processors and things like that.

Two technics 1200's and a good mixer, I have a vestax mixer. You can also get two CDDJ's i heard pioneer was pretty good.

radio djing is a lot different then other djing. radio, you probably won't need to do any real mixing or beatmatching, just crossfading in and out ofsongs. your campus should have equipment already. the industry standard turntable is the technics 1200. they are indestructible, you can buy them used. thereare plenty of good mixers, just depends on what is in your budget. don't expect it to be cheap.

and no, that cd setup is not good. try to avoid those dj in a box kits. you get what you pay for.

I want to spin Vinyls. There is a vinyl shop down the street. I'm looking at spending around 200 per table and 200 and mixer, is that a good price, Idon't want to get a crazy expensive one right now can't really afford it.

and if your not a music head as stated (when you were ased i dont believe you answered it by stating you were looking at a cd setup) dont bother, youll exposeyourself before you begin....

try and go like 300 a table and get the 1200s. they will not let you down, they are the standard, and if you decide to sell them you will probably get aroundthe same for as much as you bought it for.

a good cheap mixer is the american audio qd-5 mkII, which you will be able to find for $150 online.

thats not really much of a budget, if you spend less the 1st time youll probably want to upgrade in the near future, try around 250 - 300 a deck, used onebay (technics 1200 mk2) , and you can get an ok mixer for 200, what music do you want to spin??
edit: theres no such thing as vinyls

I'm going to be real right now, the reason that initially wanted to start Dj'ing is because of the sound quality of the music which killsMP3's(imo) plus parties where I'm at are whack cuz of all of these "ipod dj's" same cliche music week in week out, want to be in chargeso I can bring some new stuff to these bammas. As far as spinning I'm def going to be spinning a lot of underground stuff that I think needs to get spinssuch as Blu, Joell, Wale etc. also I'm going to be spinning Go-Go, even though bammas don't know what it is out here; certain Go Go songs crank in theparty no matter where you at in addition I will be spinning a lot of bay area music, because I think that stuff cranks. My bad on the Vinyls that is what Ithought they were called. So as far as it being a fad can't feel it like a flat head in a phillips, but we will see. Unless I get good I'm not tryingto step on anyone's toes that is a real Dj, and as far as spending the cake I got two jobs in Highschool to buy kicks and that was it, I'm dumb withmoney that is one reason I don't want to go all out on this til I know this ain't no fad. As far as music it will never be a fad to me.

You're probably thinking he wants to talk and just play songs, but I'm assuming that if he's buying equipment, he's gonna want to learn tomix and spin on his show. Mixing is one of the most fundamental skills that a "DJ" should have. Anyone who just fades songs in and out isn't aDJ.

honestly, the best thing to do is learn from other DJs. It's better than reading a forum.

I don't even DJ & I can tell you the most important thing you'll need is a good ear for music & how tostep outside the box without going too leftfield if you want success as a party DJ. The best party DJ's I see have the right balance of what's poppinnow to blend with some old school joints, local flavor, soul, reggae, etc & back to present.

Good luck on your endeavors though.
