Secret program gives NSA, FBI backdoor access to Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft data

At this point I seriously don't care.

Only thing I get sketched about is all these pirated movies and music......
All of this. I don't do anything illegal in my life, hopefully they have bigger things to worry about than me downloading French Montana's album.

Pirated media is the only thing that hopefully has any of you shook, and there aren't enough jumpsuits in the world to lock everyone up who has got an illegal song, album, movie, software, etc.

That being said, this is highly unconstitutional and I wished it got more media attention but:

So the government knows I fap to porn, e-stalk my ex and pray she isn't happy and misses me, and notes what apps I download?

Oh well.

 same here

This has less to do with spying, more to do with using the internet as an oracle. They can use the sea of data as a feedback mechanism to monitor trends, possibility of future events etc.

Being spied on ain't nothing new.

So I was watching Fox News.

They were literally mad that the Obama administration doesn't use this enough, and that they don't use racial/religious profiling because those things would have stopped the Boston bombing.

Wow.

I feel like Terry Crews when he found out that the agent wasn't white...

These companies are straight fraud. I'm sure they're focusing on terrorist activity more then the general public because of man power and mass amount of data a nation of 330 million people could use.. (I know everyone in our country doesn't posses a computer)

It's the fact that, say you are targeted by the government. They don't need to have any warrants to get dirt on you or to just mess your life up. You could be scooped up any day like some thought crime if the government would see fit "eventually"< like we're getting closer to that state.

I thought it was no secret that the NSA monitors any and everything it can and has been for decades.

If anything, we have been lulled into a false sense of security (pun intended) during the internet age thinking that stuff we communicate behind a password-protected account is somehow private and inaccessible. It's quite the opposite.

That said... a) while the government (or some other entity) can gather information this way, they can't use it to prosecute you if it wasn't obtained through the proper channels, correct? and b) if you wanna hide your activities, there are always ways to do it. at idiots who scheme over email.

*Puts thoughts, family info, pictures, location, addresses, phone numbers, likes and dislikes on the internet.....complains about privacy on the internet*

Technology and the internet is a give and take medium. You use it to make ya life easier. People who are supposed "protect us" are going to use it to make their job easier.

You want privacy be more private.

After going through so many articles and comments on a bunch of sites, this sadly wont change anyones habits whether online or offline. Its funny because things like this get out to the public that paints an even more negative picture on the government and people talk for a bit and a couple months later it gets swept under the rug. Imagine those in power how they feel, the worst thing possible is leaked or comes to light and people still dont do anything about it. Its as if the government just leaks things out themselves as a test on society to see gauge reactions and take note and once its forgotten they breathe a sigh of relief cause they still continue to get away with it.

Im not a fan of things happening as much as the next man, but that purge movie is really interesting to me, i wonder what would happen if the government and all government back services were cut for 6 months what would happen. I know in the movie its 12 hours or whatever it is but it would be interesting to see if left to our own devices and anything and everything government related just vanished.
