keep in mind that the 598s, along with many other 5 series headphones have an open air design to give it a more natural sound. These are best used in quiet environments like in your own home.

You mean just because they're endorsed by a famous rapper and are seen on a bunch of famous people and come in colors including limited edition ones that they're not THE best headphones out there? You must be crazy!

I love my PX 200's, very portable and good quality.

Watch out for open air designs, very good, but cant really be worn outside.

Without looking at any products you may be looking at. DAC's are converters, basically they translate your computer file into an electronic waveform. Amplifiers, basically increase volume. The benefit of an isolated amplifier would be less electronic noise in the gain stage. If you turn up the volume on your computer, you are turning up the noise that comes with it also (it will be underneath your audio, in the background). With an amplifier you can eliminate the sources (comp) noise better, as the amplifier will have a higher signal to noise ratio.

They're honestly more like speakers that you attach to your ears. You could not use these on a plane or in a coffee shop if you're a civilized person.

That said, I love mine. They're comfortable enough that sometimes I forget I'm wearing them, and the sound is great. Only complaint is that the cord is OD long. 

Not sure about the amp stuff.
