How is this not considered entrapment??

Putting these nice cars in run down neighborhoods... running and unlocked and just leaving them there to for hours at a time sometimes until someone steals it.... then when the person steals it they shut the car down and lock all the doors then proceed to place them under arrest.. How is this even legal??

If the car isn't there no one is stealing it.... so instead of trying to prevent crime their goal is too actually influence the crime to happen??

Thats like the cops getting you to go in someones face.. and talk all kind of +!* and then when they punch you the cops come and arrest the guy for assault.. just doesn't make sense to me

Thoughts?

i know what youre saying but its not like a normal person is going to take a car just because the keys are in it. they might be "influencing" crime but it does only attract thieves.

I'd say its somewhat different from TCAP... usually they don't initiate the sex talk... and anyone willing to drive 3 hours out of town to have with a 13 y/o is just disgusting

Some people on Bait Car have no prior record of it... but leaving something that nice in a neighborhood that bad.. its bound to get taken

yeah most people are walking around looking for cars to steal or even be tempted by a car running on the side of the street.

You still stole a car though...

Why don't you ask the same question for prostitution stings?

Who is stupid enough to not know a car with the keys in it or unlocked that is really high end in a +*%*#+ neighborhood is not a setup?

Only petty criminals go around trying to open every car door on the block. I don't get how the cops are influencing crime. Why is anyone inclined to approach a car that is not theirs if they do not intend to steal it? How do they even know if the car is unlocked if they aint trying to steal something?

#!+# like this makes me sick and gives you an accurate picture of where our society is at right now. These @%%@#% just put this on TV like its all OK. Stealing cars is obviously not OK but this is bullying on a whole other level.

i agree to an extent

all the money spent on *%@% like this and the schools are still closing down rapidly

^just type in bait car in youtube...unless they're taken down?

Dudes in the hood with little to no education are stupid enough.... and they don't just leave the car unlocked... they will leave the car running or just the lights on or a door open... and leave it there for hours at a time..

Cops job is to prevent crime... by placing a car somewhere just for someone to steal is influencing it just to get an arrest

smh, this is a serious question?

They're not forcing anyone to do something they would not normally do, therefore there is nothing wrong with this.

seen similar stuff done on the show Cops before, they put a bunch of money hanging out of a dudes pocket and the dude pretended to be drunk so people would try to steal it from him, sure enough it happened and the thief got caught. undercover cops FTL

I agree... got cops spending hours a day on some dumb stuff like this.. meanwhile there are plenty of real crimes and real cars getting stolen.. but here they are waiting all day for a car that is nobodys to get stolen

a while ago i read in my local paper where a guy that works at a bar was arrested because of the bait car. a lady got out the car leaving it in the middle of the street in front of the bar so he tried to move it only to get busted.

I agree. They could be spending the money catching violent criminals instead.

Like mentioned above, its exactly like a prostitution sting. Just because it's there doesn't mean it has to be stolen. A thief is getting caught; why are you mad?

Hes getting caught stealing a car that is of no value to anyone.. another young black male is getting arrested for a felony that he most likely wouldn't have committed if the cops didn't bait him into it...

I understand it doesn't have to be stolen.... but say your girlfriend tells a friend or someone to try and have sex with you until you give in... even though you may not be a cheater you will be extremely more tempted to cheat... but if the opportunity never came up you probably wouldn't have even given cheating a thought....

I agree with you to a certain extent. At the same time though, if %%@% aint yours, dont touch it. Plain and simple. For the most part you dont really see people who are leaving their office job on their way home to their wife and kids, its mostly low life idiots who deserve it.

The way I see it, it's a societal deterrent. Encouraging all citizens to keep it moving. It's not acceptable to be messing with cars running or unlocked if it aint yours. It's not your car why you messing with it? Maybe it'd be more effective if when somebody tries to steal the car you don't get arrested, they just blow up the car with you in it.
