Serious question for white people: What makes you proud of your race/culture?

YO!
One reason I'm proud to be white is the fact that we take better care of our neighborhoods(for the most part).
With some governement funding and minimum-waged employees to manicure those parks...

But I do agree for the most part.

DF!!!

The white people are the only ones answering the question accordingly. Everyone else seems to be afraid the question might offend so they're jumping tosome odd defense when they aren't even white. It's a very simple question that mature people should be able to answer with no problem.

The only thing wrong I saw from the original post is how it was worded.... but the OP seemed to have a true genuine want to learn.
Why would anyone want to attack him for trying to expand his knowledge base about other cultures?... If anything...you all should be welcoming the opportunityto teach.

If I thought this thread was racist...I would have locked it instantly.

Basically...perhaps I could have SPECIFIED that I understood that whites consist of different backgrounds but I didn't think it was going tobe that big of a deal. I ASSUMED people would just give me their answers from their POV. But even without specifying...I'm glad I'm not the only onewho thinks it's RIDICULOUS to consider anything I said racist because I nothing I said is remotely prejudice or racist.

The problem is that America is a country of different nationalities. If you were born here chances are you're a mix. That's why there's so muchracism here. No one feels pride for being an American cuz an American is a whole different bunch of nationalities. Until people accept that, there will alwaysbe racism in this country.

My fault about the whole relax thing... I hate when people tell me to relax lol... I just snapped thinking you thought I was callin you racist.. My fault.

60% of America's government funding goes to EDUCATION PROGRAMS, HEALTH CARE CLINICS, and EMERGENCY FOOD and SHELTER in the "INNER CITY"...

Key word "INNER CITY" where taxes are higher for that purpose alone...and to add more SUBURBS ARE BROKEN DOWN INTO COMMUNITIES ANDSUB-DIVSIONS..which keeps better track of the money and more can be given to COMMUNITIES THAT NEED IT.

Most "INNER-CITY" Mayors don't want their budgets to be consolidated with SUBURBAN SUB DIVISIONS and COUNTIES...

Now what does that have to do with NEW YORK CITY where most white areas are clean..but they share the same budget as BLACK AREAS?

..this is how arguments start by the way...ANT

I'm Italian... (2nd generation...West Coast, NOT Eastcoast lol...there are no guidos out here)

I'm proud to know how much some past Italians (Da vinci, Michelangelo, etc...) contributed to Science, Art, Math, etc...

Rome, at one point, was the most advanced civilization on Earth.

I like Naples and think it's one of the more beautiful cities in the world.

Also, besides Mexican food, I feel Italian food is the best.

I hope I somewhat answered your question.

Funny you mention PORTUGUESE because they introduced "THE WHITE MAN" to SLAVERY and ACUTUAL ARE THE ONES THAT SOLD AFRICANS TO ENGLISH SETTLERS of EARLY AMERICA...
so what are you blaming them? you could say the african tribe leaders that enslaved other tribes they defeated introduced it to the Portuguese, and the egyptians probably introduced it to those african tribe leaders. slavery has been around a lot longer then this millenium.

Since we're on the topic of Caucasians.

Is white + boy (as one word) a racial slur or something? Did I miss something. I typed $#*+#*!% and its censored. I didn't know $#*+#*!% was a racist slurlike the n-word. I've got white friends and none of them are offended by this term.

The Irish in New York went from the gutters of Lower Manhattan, to Washington Heights, to the Bronx, to Rockland County, to Garden City, LI in a little over ahundred years. That makes me pretty damn proud.

Oh, and JFK.

I learned when traveling to other countries no matter what my nationality was (italian or japanese), I was an American first.

I'd tell people in France that I was Japanese and Italian and they'd always insist I was an American. After some thought I did realize that was just anAmerican. I am not from Japan or Italy, although my ancestors were and I do share many of the same cultural values.

I think what makes people proud to be white is the culture that they draw from their families past. I had a girlfriend from Pittsburgh, PA who was IrishAmerican. For her family it was Irish Dancing, Religion, & Irish food that made them proud. But the bottom line was that they were American above all else.

Every country has its own culture that it's people draw from (whether it be the people who live there or the people who once had family there).

If you want to learn about other people's culture the best thing to do is explore them yourself. There aren't certain cultural values that"all" white people are proud of (besides maybe being American)! You can't just group all "white" people into a single group and expectthem to share the same sorts of pride.

okay, you hearing it all the time doesn't change my statement, or that fact that i very rarely hear it...

aint you in NYC?

i'm in middle america, Columbus, Ohio, and for as long as i can remember, a majority of white people who stumble into these sort of conversations answer with either, a.) white or b.) american.

it's always bothered me....i just assumed that these arent values stressed by white american families...

Dirty we don't agree on relationship issues but, I think were on the same page.
eNPHAN you said it your self you're in MIDDLE AMERICA the "heartland of racism"
most Eastcoast (especially NYC'ers), Southern and Westcoast regions will clearify their "HERITAGE" in an instant.
The mid-west where clearly more old fashioned values thrive are direct DECENDANTS of the actual "WHITE" settlers
say "WHITE" to strenghten their numbers because THEY'RE WEAK...

NATIVE AMERICANS out numbered "WHITES" 60 to 1 in early AMERICA...and after the CIVIL WAR and "THE GREAT MIGRATION"
AFRICAN AMERICANS migrated to the mid-west in the HENRY FORD BOOM and DEMAND FOR LABOR. there were 7 WHITES to every 1 BLACK but even with those minimul numbers WHITES FELT THREATEN which the word "MINORITY" was indoctrinated and WHITES, either Irish, Italian, Greeks, American Indian were reffered to as WHITES to keep the popolus STRONG for elections and union laws...

But on the Eastcoast IMMIGRATION is the NORM and everybody takes pride in their RACE....

HOPE THIS ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION
right, but my point was that NYC and Cali are anomalies in this argument.

i said i was in middle america to illustrate my point, a MAJORITY of white american's don't value their specific culture....

at least not as much as other races/culutres i've encountered..

psssh, someone mentioned the portugese, i lived in the Ironbound section of newark when i was younger....dead $#%, i didnt even know portuguese is classified as white, i saw that my school was like 65 percent white, i was like
eek.gif
, i know ONE white kid...

ask a portuguese person "what are you?" i doubt any of them will answer anything other than "portuguese".....

why? i believe it is because their culture is stressed and valued much more than a midwestern "white" person's is....

Funny you mention PORTUGUESE because they introduced "THE WHITE MAN" to SLAVERY and ACUTUAL ARE THE ONES THAT SOLD AFRICANS TO ENGLISH SETTLERS of EARLY AMERICA...

what does that have to do with the topic at hand?

i didnt know you were white.

In MOST cases im not real proud to be white. If I think back to times I have been done wrong. The times that white people were the culprit far out weight thetimes a minority has done it. I also live in the "heartland" of america and I get crap from alot of white people for not having pride in my race.. ohwell when they get there act together I might think it over. until then I'm gunna continue to be culturally diverse

I know what you mean. I've lived in a few different places, when I lived in Michigan it amazed me how many people didn't know theirheritage or would just make up stuff. Like in 5th grade I remember we were sitting in a circle and everyone took a turn saying what nationality they were. Someone would be like "Polish and Irish" then the next person would go.."

Polish and Irish" then the next, "I don't know"..

Those values aren't stressed in a lot of white families, but also a lot of white families are very proud of where they are from. I love though that somany white people never care about it until St Patricks Day then all the sudden everyone is Irish

When I was in 5th grade, my school made us do a huge report on our heritage, we had to learn everything about where we came from. To this day its one of theonly reports I remember doing in my life. Heritage has always been something that has been important to my family and friends. We all know where we are from, and are all very proud.

Im from upstate NY, if that matters.

Honestly, we are all just Americans. Stop kidding yourselves.

would you like to be referred to as "boy?"...regardless of race?

What do you want us to say, "I'm proud because we took this great land from the Indians and brought slaves over because we were too lazy to do our ownwork?"

Oh and I'm German and Irish
