Gordon Ramsay investigates the controversial dish, shark fin soup. The show exposes the cruelty behind shark fishing.
Shark fin alone has no taste and no true nutrientbenefit. Up to 73 million sharks are caught each year for the global fin trade, which fuels a demand for shark-fin soup, according to Pew. Fishers usually slice the animals' fins off and throw their still-living bodies overboard.

part 3 @ the 1:30 mark is some terrible footage of what they do to the shark when caught.

Watched that on BBC..

Disgusting that they can just do that to a beautiful creature like the shark...

its sharks though, sharks provide us with nothing.

I hate shark fin soup. I can't believe some cultures consider it a delicacy. If you're going to waste such a majestic animal, at least make sure the meal tastes good. I'd rather drink tap water than drink that soup.

Alright, let me cut off your arms and legs and throw on the sidewalk.
You know, since you don't provide us with anything either

Toronto just banned Shark Fin Soup and I hope other cities/countries follow. Sadly, most meat/seafood people eat is derived from inhumane methods, mostly in factory settings, that people rarely hear about, but at least this is a step in the right direction.

And this is the mindset that explains what's wrong with this world. They may not provide YOU with nothing but shark soup is quite popular in certain Latin American countries and other Asian countries. However, this is no excuse for damaging such a complex ecosystem. Every animal serves a purpose in nature, including ourselves. We have to stop being so greedy and damaging this world.  This is a gruesome and brutal act.

This is very true. Sadly, many of us are guilty even by indirect means. Many farming/livestock raising techniques are straight wrong.

I dont think im far off in saying over hte course of Earths history millions and millions of species have gone extinct. The earth always finds its balance

The extinct species were eliminated naturally. They weren't fit to survive in that current environment.

Right now, what humans are doing is both natural and unnatural. It's natural in that yes, if a species can dominate, then it should, forcing other species to adapt. But it's unnatural in that unlike the normal animal kingdom, humans waste and go out of their way to destroy the environment and nature both purposely and accidentally.

If we messed things up because it's something we needed, that would be natural and good for nature. But when we go around mass-killing and being inefficient and glutinous, it's bad for the environment.

Saw this last January... its a very good documentary.

James may Edge of space is very good too.

if we could domesticate sharks and have schools of sharks like herds of cattle, would that justify killing sharks for shark fin soup?
absolutely!

Cows are not endangered. Cows are not a apex predator. We don't just use 5% of the cow. We won't cut off the cows legs and just leave it to die. This type of argument is often made but absolutely does not work.
