SIM Card question

I'm waiting for my cellphone provider to send me my new phone after a hardware upgrade. The service rep said he'd be including a new SIM as well. I was wondering, how does that work? When I turn on the phone, will this new SIM disable my old one? Or will I be able to have pretty much two phones working at once?

New one usually starts working 24 hrs after you get it, old one stops working at that time as well.

So are you saying once I get my new phone, I have to pop in my old SIM in the new phone for the first 24 hours or something?

Just use the old SIM card till it stops working (usually within 24 hrs) then just swap the old one for the new. You could swap immediately once you get it but you just won't be able to use the phone for a while.
