Since Jeremy Lin is doing so well, situational racism is OK.

it's not acceptable, but I'm not going to let it damper my mood right now seeing this guy achieve success having supported him since his jr season at Harvard. There are other things to worry about and these things are out of anyone's control --- people are just going to let their ignorant colors shine when the opportunity presents itself.  I know this isn't the worst of it. Do a twitter search and you pretty much know it's all over the place.

WWJLD. ignore it.

i dont even know if i would classify this as racism really...it's not implying any kind of inferiority
maybe you could call it ignorance, but not racism

exactly, dude just cleverly put some words together and knew it would get some lulz. otherwise he wouldn't have posted anything

It's part of what makes him so special to everyone, especially Asian-Americans. He's shattering stereotypes, proving that it doesn't matter what your race is. If you got game and work hard, you'll get noticed.

Although there are a ton of Asian people posting on NT, Asians still only make up 5% of the population in the entire US. This is where the racism still exists- Jeremy is from the Bay Area, NOT from Asia, and from a lot of comments some commentators are making about him, a lot of people still don't get that and that's something I find a little offensive. Like Steven A Smith saying "the Asian community is doing the same thing for Jeremy Lin they did for Yao Ming" in a clip I saw today...it's ignorant to say that. Yes, they are the same race, but they represent completely different things.

Eh its all in good fun in this case. Who the *%+! cares?

Racism is EVERYWHERE and ITS NOT GOING AWAY in our lifetimes. The sooner ya'll realize that the better.

White folks, asian folks, black folks, people of middle eastern decent and so on and so forth; they're all racist.

Im sorry to all those who are easily offended by what some buffon has to say about your race. It will NEVER be that serious.

It's not even worth worrying or thinking about.

He's from Palo Alto, California

Thats what I'm sayin. This dude is an AMERICAN. Born in LA raised in Palo Alto. Dude can just ball. Nothing more

But everybody wants a story. If it gets him more props and exposes basketball more globally I think its worth the bad jokes

Asian people are smart and have small penises.

Black people can jump high.

White people are serial killers/rapist/pedophiles and cant dance.

Jewish people are stingy/rich.

Muslims are terrorists.

Native Americans own casinos.

It's nothing we havent heard before

Lighten up and deal with it. Regardless of race you pave your own road in this life.

^Seriously, I agree. I think what people don't realize is that if he keeps up anything close to his current production, he might get the Asian votes and start at PG over D.Rose next year. Could we have 4 all stars next year perhaps?

That's the thing, who does really care? No outcry about anything from this tweet yet, but if a white man, or another columnist said something about a black athlete being a gorilla, monkey, cotton picker the out cry would be insane.
It's not that serious, until it happens to black people.

*shrugs* I didn't really care much about the tweet, but it came from Whitlock who is all about no racism and defending the minorities, etc.

Honest question...how does the hype for Lin differ from that of Yao Ming?

As long as there are races, there will be racial humor. It's funny when a black guy wins the Super Bowl and proposes to his white girlfriend while his disapproving mother looks on? The racial jokes that come from that whole situation playing out are funny, right? Because I didn't see any "Stop situational racism now!" posts from you in there.
Bigmike23:
was something wrong with that big @+@ thread on him already?
Exactly. You want to talk about Jeremy Lin, use the Jeremy Lin thread.

If you want to talk about situational racism, make a thread in General.
