...why are carmakers allowed to make cars that go so far over the limit?  Why not just make cars that max out at 70 mph with the exception of emergency vehicles.  You'd probably have less accidents and almost eliminate car chases.

Or are speeding tickets some sort of business like prisons?

Or you can just follow the speed limit. Kind of like saying if America has an obese problem why not eliminate all unhealthy food chains. Its called land of the "free" for some reasons.

I'm pretty sure public vehicles can't go over 65 mph


even if cars couldn't go over 70 mph...that wouldn't eliminate speeding

I see what your saying OP.  But keep in mind there are times on the highway where you need to hit 80 because some truck is merging into your lane with reckless abandon.  Also i think you're right about it being a revenue based law.  A lot of speeding tickets get handed out a year and now even more with the highway cameras.  Its just a way to make money off the public. 

I think the answer you're looking for is just people should be better drivers.  People always speed unnecessarily especially in traffic when they are getting ahead by 1 car length for no reason at all.
