Charles Barkley says friendship with Michael Jordan has soured over Bobcats criticism:
Michael Jordan may have been the greatest player in history, but his ownership tenure in Charlotte has been a lot closer to a disaster. And apparently he was sensitive to a friend's opinion that the team was "turrible."
In an interview with Yahoo! Sports, Charles Barkley said a longstanding friendship with Jordan has soured because the TNT analyst had been critical of the Bobcats.
"I think that Michael was upset by some of the things I said about the Bobcats – which, number one, they were true," Barkley told Yahoo! Sports. "I told you earlier, I’m going to be honest, and I’m going to be fair.
"The Bobcats -– first of all, he’s doing a much better job. But a couple years ago, I want to say three years ago, when they were vying for the worst record in NBA history, Michael had not done a good job. He took it personally."
Although they're coming off a surprisingly successful season -- and have since changed their name to the Hornets -- the Bobcats were the NBA's worst in the previous two seasons, bottoming out in 2011-12 with a 7-59 record. It is the worst winning percentage in the league's history.
Barkley and Jordan were golfing buddies and good friends stemming from their playing days in the '80s and '90s. They were teammates on the Dream Team and co-stars in "Space Jam."
It seems the relationship is reparable, at least on Barkley's end.
“Michael has always been like a brother to me,” he said. “He’s been a great mentor to me in the business world and he’s been a great friend.”
