With that being said, I am like a super dork with skating but I suck mad balls at skating so go figure. But this is a unanimous consensus, but the most popular boards are DLX brands, crailtap brands, and kayo will get a pass but not everyone would ride their stuff. Other brands are 50/50 like DNA boards (Alien and Habitat) and Blitz (Baker) but please do not get Element decks or some Birdhouse crap unless you have a shop full of kiddies. But real skaters, it is all about wood and not graphics. DLX has the best wood out imo. Stocl up on Krooked, Anit Hero and REAL decks and you should have a legit shop.

I won a set of Mariano Spitfires from dlxsf.com a few back. The past few boards I have set up have been with Thunder trucks and Spitfire wheels, those will beall I skate now.

I used to do that an paint my own designs on the blanks.

True and I know in this economic times, things are hard to put down $50 on a deck. But it does nothing for the industry and for the most part, that is who weshould support since most of it started as an independent co. I used to think that and buy Copeland deck (when they were around) but I spend my money on acompanies I like or a skater I like if they skate the same size as I, which is pretty much never since 7.5 boards are almost obsolete. But I would highlyrecommend buy a brand you support or at least some shop decks to help the little guys.

I've skated Zero, Enjoi, Girl, Chocolate, and both of my shop's blanks.

Girl = Chocolate, obviously, but my last two have been Justin Eldridge 8'' decks, and I really liked 'em. I have sz 13 feet, so I wanted a widerdeck. Just bought a 7 7/8'' shop blank that's a little shorter than the chocolate, but still nice. Plus, $20 cheaper is tight with me.

The Enjoi broke the day I bought it, a shame.

Zero was sick, but again, lasted less than a week.

I'll prolly ride blanks for the rest of the summer.

Royal trucks, reds bearings, and girl wheels, btw.

Oh, and OP, push Deathwish if you have em. By Skaters, for Skaters, man. That's real.

From what I read from everyone on SLAP mag forum (best and worst forum for skating), the consensus on their setup is:

Decks: Anything but Element and Dwindle. They get no love.

Trucks: Indys (stage 10) all the way but close to 2nd and 3rd are Ventures and Thunders

Wheels: They say Bones wheels are the best with no flatspots. Spitfire is a love and hate relationship.

Bearings: There really is no preference here. Anything cheap and that rides good.

Grip and Hardware: Who cares......it's grip and bolts. Whatever they got for cheap but Diamond actually gets no love...even though their clothing brandseems to be okay.

Shoes: Vans are still respectable especially the chukka low. I skate SBs but that is also a love hate. Adidas seems to be a decent brand as well.

what are you riding now bro?
I'm riding a Gravity Bruce Logan OG. I'm just going to upgrade the bearings, wheels and trucks on this board. I want a Loaded Vanguardor a Loaded Dervish eventually though.

Powell ruined itself by making blank decks IMO. Their decks were sick back in the Bones Brigade days but now what's the point when all you canfind in a store are Powell blanks? People probably got conditioned to equate Powell wood with cheap so their pro board sales must be way down at least wherei am. At least their bearings, wheels and bushings are still good.

Vision might still be around in some capacity pressing boards for people. Whoever was in charge of the team or design must have left because they fell offhard after the 1990's.

As for me:
Decks: DLX (Real, Krooked, Anti Hero), crailtap (Girl, Chocolate) or DNA (Alien, Habitat). Got a Krooked Zip Zinger, Habitat Danny Garcia and an In4mationdeck in the rotation now.
Trucks: Thunder or Indy
Bearings: Bones Swiss 6. At the very least get Reds.
Wheels: Autobahn, Gold but am interested in checking out Bones or Satori. Spitfires seem to flatspot quick for me.

For all I know there could be some other sick decks I haven't ridden yet but I don't want to support some of the d-bags they sponsor.

I just remembered Santa Cruz was another brand that was quite popular in the late '80s. I had a Vision Gator, a Vision Ken Park, A PowellMike McGill and a Powell Lance Mountain during my skating time.

Just after seeing this thread, I looked up some of these older boards and Vision still seems to be around, but putting out nothing but retros of their olderboards. Same with Powell, but I haven't found any of the reproductions that I used to have yet. Fun to go back and look at that stuff again.

I like DGK. I dropped like 160 on a DGK board to learn how to skate but i quickly found out skating wasn't for me

I could have bought a nice pair of kicks with that money. SMH

smh... why are you even in here.

I've always wanted a DLX board, but I can never find a shop around here that carries them.

Yo OP which skate shop you work at? I'm from Houston too, so I was just wondering.
As far as decks go, I skate a DGK deck.

Haven't skated in years but this was the last deck I owned.
