Basically the situation is I lI've in NYC and my parents live in new England. I would like to set up a Slingbox or something similar that lets me watch the red sox, celtics, patriots, bruins etc. without having to go to a bar or buy all he packages. Obviously HD is ideal. Are there Ny options besides Slingbox? Also I presume i would purchase a separate box not connected to a tv at my parents house. This wouldn't be at the modem/router so I would need to set something up ( not a long cord) to he the Internet connection to the Slingbox.Anyone with experience or tips?

I am a slingbox junkie, I use it quite a bit.  I got one of these to configure the internet connection to the sling box because it's in a different room.  The reception you get really depends on the upload speed at your parent's house.  I recommend an upload speed greater than 2mbps.

theres one alternative called the vulcano flow..but i opted for the slingbox also...you can buy a seperate box or play it off your laptop/tablet if you have one to your tv. the downside is paying 30 bucks tho for the app

How has your guys experience with the Slingbox been? I was about to get one for Christmas but the reviews were horrible, especially when it comes to customer service, so I decided not to get one.

I have a Slingbox and I'm thinking of doing something similar. I want to leave my Slingbox at my parents house and mooch off their FiOS when I move out soon. If your router and slingbox are setup in different rooms then you need to get the SlingLink. Its a Ethernet over Power (EOP) solution. Its a pair of devices that transmit data through your power lines. One connects to you router, the other to the sling box and you plug them DIRECTLY into an outlet (won't work with a surge protector, etc..). Easy as that.. You can use them for other things besides the slingbox too.
