Any tips or anything?

-They have me on 40 MG.
-Friend that took it said the worst side effect he ever had was chapped lips.
-I don't have bad acne, it's just on the side of my face where I think I sleep and it gets clogged up. Got that oily skin stuff.

Thanks in advance.

I heard it's bad to be drinking alcohol during the period of time when you're taking the medication.

Here are some of the effects.

A lot of people wouldn't recommend you to use it if you don't have bad acne.

I used to have some pimples, but then I started to eat correctly and washed my face more often, then acne just started going away...without using any of these skin-care products. If you want to just get rid of the "oily stuff," then just buy one of the Neutrogena face wash...those should be enough.

Good luck man.

I heard you need to sign waivers and stuff before starting it and they encourage you to see a physiologist because the medicine evokes suicidal thoughts.

I would try anything i could before taking this. I had/have acne and mine went down a lot with Adoxa and Retin-a. Dermatological medicine is way better then anything you could buy over the counter. I have tried it all and nothing worked over 3 years. Went to a dermatologist and was satisfied with my skin after 3 months

good luck with it

i remember my dermatologist suggesting it at the time but my mom passed when she heard the side effects

i just recently saw a class action law suit commercial on tv a few weeks ago regarding the use of it and its side effects

edit - just read up on the law suit, it only applies to inflammatory bowel disease

Absolutely. It's a serious medication that (in the UK at least) should only be prescribed by a senior dermatologist - and after trying other safer treatments.

If your skin isn't 'that bad' then you need to try other stuff first.

I've tried almost everything they've prescribed (which has been 3-4 antibiotics, several creams, etc.). Like I said, it's not that bad, but everything they prescribed has not worked. I just want to wipe it out.

My doctor actually addressed this. Dude said that he was talking to a colleague who saw the commercial (he hadn't seen it) and they had no idea where it came from. I know for a fact they're both tenured doctors. He said he doesn't have enough information to reject it but at the moment he doesn't believe in it. He said the data from that commercial was not gone over by a lot of people so they're not sure how accurate it is, and it was presented to a meeting before, like I said, it was gone over to test for accuracy of the report.

It's said to give you Crohn's and you don't want Crohn's. You're better off stepping your facial hygiene up.

This.

Some of those side effects are no joke...

I'd avoid it.

I ended up on accutane after like 3 years of recurring acne. Tried on treatment, worked a bit, then it came back and that treatment was no longer useful. Went to another, and so on and so on, then accutane finally came up. Had a friend who used it and swore by it, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It is very serious, and you do need to sign a waiver before taking it, one of the apparent side effects is that it may cause you to become depressed and possibly commit suicide...

I'm done my 5 month regime, and it definitely did a lot of good. I'm on my fourth month after finishing it, and my face is a lot clearer. This is the longest time I haven't really had an acne problem as well, hopefully it stays this way (knock on wood). Things to keep in mind, you should probably stop with the alcohol, accutane is supposed to have serious effects on your liver. For some reason you're supposed to keep vitamin A to a minimum, so if you're taking a multi-vitamin, find something that doesn't have Vitamin A (I used "stress tabs" which is like a multivitamin for older people =/). Also, I suggest trying to eat a bit better and exercising, the drug may affect your cholesterol levels, so stay healthy. I started taking it in winter, so my face and lips got extra dry, keep moisturizer and lip balm on deck. This may also happen to your nose, so ask your pharmacist for some sort of nasal moisturizer. Good luck, hope it works out!
