SoCal NTers, how's life in La Jolla/San Diego?

I was just curious how you can make it in the San Diego area. Is this a nicer area to live in compared to LA? How far are these two areas from each other? What kind of salary do you need to live in Cali? Is $100K yearly enough for someone in their late 20s enough not to avoid living in a sewage pipe?

I heard that Cali is heaven on earth and was curious what you guys think of it. Hows life, culture, weather, whatever. What kind of family do you come fromif you're not on your own. If you are on your own, how do you manage cost of living? This is coming from an OH NTer, so $100K house out here is gonna be$300 easy.

Thanks for any advice, and happy turkey day!

Never compare San Diego to LA. That's like comparing Salma Hayek to Lil Mama...LA is pure trash..

100k and single? you'll be arite man ....SD is real nice ...its not as wild as L.A. tho but that a good thing IMO....SD to LA is only a few hour train rideor if your lucky w/o hitting traffic on the 5 or 405

I dont think you should be talking since your from Sac

L.A. trash >>>>>>>>>>> SAC

SD is alitte over 100 miles away from LA. typically 2 - 3 hrs of driving. LA is nice but i like my hometown SD. Always sunny. The prices on the houses down
here are high as a !%%$% but if you got the money then go for it. If you make 100 k then thats good enough. You can get a decent house around the Scripps Rancharea. or anywhere for that matter

I wrote something but it got deleted when this thread moved, smh. It was enough to cover the basics.

Even with 100k I wouldn't try to live in La Jolla. Chula Vista has a bunch of nice new development mainly in East Lake and its only 10 minutes from HotelSquare.

i haven't lived in many other areas but i can definitely appreciate the lifestyle here in SD. Life, culture, and weather is what SD is all about! if youget a chance to live here don't hesitate!

Bunch of houses in the Otay/Eastlake area goin' for mad cheap nowadays though, use to be around 750k now selling for low 300's
With a 100k salary, which is more than enough for for being single, you'd prolly be best off in a townhouse in the Mission valley area

Sorry buddy but you're wrong. Socal for sure is better than Sac, heck you can't even begin to compare. Everything around LA is nice, but LA itself ISTRASH. Tent cities downtown, smog, high crime rate, gang problem, traffic, etc..The list goes on..LA is the trash can in a mansion.

um......i moved from LA to La Jolla (family, not me technically)

LA is definitely a better city IMO. Certain parts of LA are "trash," but the rest of the city is incredible.

Nightlife in SD is weakkkkk, but overall a beautiful city, laid back, beautiful women, etc.

I'd say La Jolla is the most affluent area in San Diego. so good luck w/ all that

Very true. Couldn't have said it better myself man.

Eastlake, otay ranch, and Chula Vista started booming between 2003 to 2006 until the housing crisis hit, and hit SD one of the hardest in the country. But yeaheastlake and Chula Vista aren't all hyped up to be like some of the SD people on here make it out to be. A couple years back I heard so many SD peopletalking about how Eastlake was the new La Jolla

. A lot of people thatlive there now don't even realize before that area blew up and started to grow that the area was all farm land before. I went to a family friend'sparty tonight in Chula Vista and the owners of the house who just bought this huge house of Telegraph Canyon this past July or August paid 250K for a housethat was going for 750K in that area back in 2003-2006 years when the real estate market was hot then. The biggest turn off with living that far down south isthe crazy traffic you will hit on the weekdays especially if you work a 9 to 5 job.

Mission Valley is nice area also but traffic again is another issue and the area seems just so congested with 2 big malls in Fashion Valley & MissionValley malls. Also Qualcomm stadium is right down the road on Friars Rd.

La Jolla is a nice beach area town. That's the main reason it's so expensive to live anywhere there and also because UCSD is also in La Jolla. But ifyour making 100K you can get a nice apartment or condo to rent in the area, but dont expect to be able to buy a house down there. Houses in that area go formillion of dollars.

shoot i came out here with a 34000 salary and made it. SO CAL is the melting pot buddy.

Uh, traffic is traffic. It's not much different from the traffic off the 5 from Mira Mesa and up.

im living in la jolla right now for school, i go to ucsd. I love it, weather is better then LA, beaches are even closer, girls are fire, lots of young peoplein pacific beach. Im liking it more then LA. You can get a 2 bedroom apartment from about 1500-2500 just depends which one. Im living in a townhouse acrossfrom the mall and its 2600 for a 4 bedroom.

I'd say SD is better than LA if you're talking as far as living goes, but LA is more superior if you're talking about nightlife, entertainment, things to do, culture, etc... LA is very dirty and I think is overrated imo. I would only go visit. SD is a place to be to live and work.
