i really don't care though. vans are like 40 bucks. get a few in rotation and they wont smell. if i gotta take my shoes off it doesn't matter cause it's summer if i don't have socks.

exactly.
i only have authentics. they're so comfortable without socks. they don't smell either. not sure why.
vans should try lining the inside of the shoes with different materials. the canvas footbed on mine wear down fast.
