If Iraq was in a more peaceful state, then I'd would try to go through the persian gulf and then the tigris or euphrates, but i doubt those large boats would handle well in either of those rivers.

if these guys continue to hi-jack non millitary targets,then they deserve to get hit like millitary targets.

btw who are you referring to when you say "them"
theres a reason the war in Iraq and Afghanistan have gone on so long... its not like you take out the central govt and call it a day.

Regardless of the boat, these pirates have RPGs and AKs. That's enough to get anyone to stop.

I feel like IF you are going to sail through there, you should at least take precautions to be safe. Like have some sort of weapons aboard, having lookouts, or maybe even trying to get a escort boat until you get to safer waters. Regardless, I hope they don't kill them. If this keeps up I wouldn't be surprised if a Pirate Hunter task force or something is put together for the sole purpose of sinking these dudes to the bottom of the ocean.

I was having a conversation on this (well a similar) topic with a buddy of mine today.
Who would finance such a task force? I know that no state/govt agency could ever sanction, sponsor, or fund such a group, but what if some security contractor firm went out there and ran their own anti-somali pirate pirating group of sorts? Instead of targetting freighters or rich private yachters, they would only target the somali pirates. After taking the somali pirates hostage (probably the leaders, since the rank and file pirates make for shoddy bargaining chips) they could then negotiate ransoms directly with the pirates. Since some of these pirate outfits are raking in $5MM per ransom, they have to have the cash to payout. If the anti-pirate pirates were able to grab a high ranking somali pirate, maybe the somali pirates would be inclined to pay such a ransom. obviously the security contractor would need to find their own ways to avoid prosecution from the West (or other nations), but maybe the West would just turn a blind eye since they are benefiting from these anti[pirate pirates?
