Sup NT? I got a speeding ticket back in April/2010 in Brooklyn. I was going 49 in a 30 and I have a court date coming up. This is the only moving violation I've ever gotten. My record is clean. Anyone ever been in the same situation and got away with it?  If not, how much was your fine/points?

I been in the situation and usually there are ways to get it removed from your record if you ask. Maybe ask the judge if it is possible the only thing that sucks is that you will have to now pay court fees and crap.

do you have an option of paying the ticket rather than going to court.

It's 100 -150 bucks for a ticket clinic type service. How much was your total ticket? Sometimes it's easier to just pay the fine and go to traffic school to take the points off your record as opposed to going to court. Then again, sometimes the case gets thrown out and you're good to go. So good luck!

Well, I really got a summons and I can plead guilty take 4 points and a fine. It doesn't say how much though. How much would it cost to get attorney to take care of it? Estimate?

prayer for judgement if it's your first offense. no points, and it's completely removed from your record in 3 years (if you don't get another offense during that time period). a good lawyer will probably cost $150-250. this should be an easy case, but i'd still suggest hiring a lawyer.

R.I.P.

But seriously, it's better to take the L, pay a fine, and take some traffic school classes than to have 4 points on your license because your insurance will skyrocket.

OR you can do what I did for my 92 in a 55 ticket... request Probation Before Judgement (stay moving violation free for a year after granted and it'll be dismissed).

The only problem with that is if you get a moving violation within that year, you get the new and OLD ticket/fines.

Also consider buying a radar detector, Escort Passport X50 FTW!

I hate to break this to you but since you got the ticket in one of the 5 boroughs your basically screwed. You would go appear at the TVB (traffic violation bureau) where it's basically fake court and there's no plea bargaining.
A lawyer is gonna be around $400.. that's what I paid 3 years ago when I got my first ticket for doing 84 in a 50 on the FDR.

I was facing 8 points and ended up getting 6, mind you my record was spotless. A lawyer in NYC wont do jack for you unless your facing a criminal complaint like reckless driving which would make you go in front of a real judge. Basically you'll be paying a lawyer to postpone your court date as far as possible and when he finally appears, he hopes the cop just can't remember the incident.

This is something you can EASILY do yourself... postpone the thing as much as you can and when you finally go let the cop talk and if he messes up it'll get thrown out without you having to say anything besides pleading not guilty.

So in my case I didn't know better and got done dirty.

$140 Fine

$400 lawyer

$300 NYS 6 or more points on your record in 18 months - Driver responsibility surcharge.. $100 a year for 3 years. I just finished paying it yesterday.

Damn I got the ticket late april and I have the court date on feb 18 I can't postpone it anymore it's not allowing me to do so. I guess I'll just go in and see what happens. I hope I get lucky. Insurance under my name is like $600 a  month right now. The insurance agent told me it's because I live in brooklyn. I can't imagine what it will be if I get some points. Luckily I have a uncle who has my car completely under his name. But thanks everyone for the advice
