did it as a kid...
had a few xmen and misc. other ones...
but i want to start a new small collection..
where to begin?

i heard about batman "the long halloween" series...

wolverine origins" book"...

and of coarse the older comics..
but when i searched on ebay it hit me with..

copper age,silver age.. etc.

how do i narrow it down?
im 23,and i want the xmen and batman I GREW up with... the same costumes...
dark batman..

ahhh...

im doing the same thing since i lost over 120 comics i had as a kid. i would go with anything jim lee, todd mcfarland, eric larsen.

just go on ebay most of the stuff from the late 80s early 90s is cheap. you have to know what your looking for tho

Xmen for what year? The Xmen nowadays is no more since the old team broke up and went separate ways. Just look for copper age books if you want old stuff orread Uncanny Xmen if you want Xmen stuff. Batman nowadays is different since Bruce died and #@+%(orginal robin, nightwing) tookover the cowl. Just collect theTP like the Dark Knight Returns,Killing joke and Batman R.I.P

maybe youd be interested in some graphic novels to get you started:
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Batman: Year One
Batman" The Dark Knight Strikes Again
Batman" The Long Halloween

idk much about marvel besides the Civil War and Marvel Zombies series

^yes, thats whats up... i heard about those...

and as far as marvel,i think the uncanny xmen might be around the time frame im lookin for...
i dont want xmen evolution,or anything weird... just regular xmen... around the time of the animated series.

The Uncanny Xmen are the Xmen nowadays. Read Xmen Forever its a newly written comic based around the time of the animated series. The Batman Tps like Killingjoke are novels based not based on continuity and they are not batman like the cartoons. You should just stick to 90s comics if you want that kinda of batman.

Will you be collecting for reading? or will you be collecting with an eye for the books value?

If you will be collecting for reading, stick to graphic novels aka trade paperbacks. Everything is collected and printed nowadays, perfect for reading stories.

If you will be collecting individual issues for the value... thats a whole different monster altogether.

I would say find a local comic book shop(s) and see what comics they might have, especially if you like earlier comics from the 90's. I remember last yearmy local shop had a 50% off cover price on old comics so comics that were like $1.00 were 50 cents and I took home probably 100 comics to help fill in mycollection.

Also you can try ebay for sellers that sell comics in lots. I picked up the whole Infinity Guantlet saga(s) as well as early Silver Surfer issues for a verygood price.

Also look for graphic novels at your comic shop because their much easier to buy and you don't have to worry about looking for single issues.
